I had a big split in my Reimer PJ and it was pretty good but I did swap out for a big split which i prefer, That being said I am on the P only 95% of the time.

Hi, while rehearsing i saw the gaps below the nut. Is that normal for the German Sad? It doesn’t seem to effect the sustain.

I can't comment on Sadowsky soap bars because I haven't played a bass equipped with Sadowsky soaps, but I have a NYC P-Big Rig and I don't think you'd be disappointed. I concur with @scubaduba regarding the Big Rig soloed. If you do decide to solo it, it definitely brings something to the table that a solo J bridge pickup lacks.

The Big Rig is an amazing pickup. I used one in a bass with single soapbar in middle position and preferred it to be wired in parallel rather than series, but both sounded great and I'm sure the thicker-sounding series wiring would be better for a bridge pickup, and also be a better match output-wise to a middle P pickup.

Just got this NYC 5-21 today off the TB classifieds. There's a large visible gap between the fretboard and body. None of my other bolt-on basses (or any I've ever owned) have this.

100% normal. Every Sadowsky I have has this, but some models don’t. It’s a small fretboard overhang that extends over the rest of the bulk of the neck.

Other than the ultra vintage models, most Sadowsky basses come with 21 frets versus the typical fender with 20 frets. Due to the extra fret, the fingerboard overhangs the end of the neck.

I think Ultra-Vintage can still have 21 frets... the black P5 in my avatar has 21. I wanted the more traditional look for my CAR P5, so I specified 20 frets when I placed the order. I'm not much of a high-register guy, and another factor is that the 21st fret is harder to reach on a P than a J.
