I was lucky buying a Japanese MetroExpress RV4E TCB for a very good price of € 1450,- Set up needed a little work, but now it is a fantastic looking, sounding and playable bas on par with my German WL (avatar). Only 7.7 lbs (3.5kg), and with the much better lightweight case.
That’s great. I wondered what he’s up to. That headstock though, eesh. Same problem Nino Valenti ran into.

I recently received a German WL5 weighing 8.2lbs. I found the headstock slightly heavy so I installed USA Ultralites with clovers. BIG difference !
Sadowsky tuners 80grams ea.
USA UL 58grams ea.
110 grams (3.88oz) total reduction.
Smoother too.

Many thanks for your post. I'm contemplating this change for my German Modern 5er, as it is a tad neck heavy. Good to know changing the tuners is actually worth it.
Question on the Just a Nut non-metal version. 5 string.
So, when I adjust it to give the clearance I need on the A then all the other string positions are a bit high. I am curious if there is undue stress on the A position causing the nut to sag slightly, since the adjustment screws are between the B-E and the D-G and there is no real support under the A string position.
Anyone else experience this ?

I also got pretty lucky finding one of the last RV4's made by Yoshi. I really love this bass.

Those of you that have the Will Lee mid boost on your modern/single cut how does the sound differ from the single coils? I have a metro WL 5er and my NYC modern 5-24 is almost ready and I’m curious if I will end up needing to keep the WL.
Mid boost or not, they're very different sounding basses because of the pickups and pickup placement. To me, it'd come down to which sound you prefer, as the Modern is not going to do the jazz bass thing and the jazz bass isn't going to do the Modern thing. Otherwise, I'd keep both because they sound drastically different from each other IMHO.
I’d agree, they are different. I currently have a 5-22 NYC WL (sc’s) and have a Warwick CS Single Cut (sb’s) coming soon. I had an NYC modern with sb’s in the past…intentionally ordered my Single Cut with soaps, because of the difference. Planning to use flats on the Single Cut, and prefer Black SS rw’s on my 5-22.
That said, if you can’t keep both…I get it. You’ll just have to decide for yourself which one covers the most tonal territory for your needs.

I appreciate the responses fellas. I am well aware of the differences in the pickups themselves, I was looking for the differences in how the mid boost responds to them. I guess I’ll just wait a week or two and see for myself.

I prefer the soapbar bridge pickup to a J but was wondering about swapping it out with a Nordstrand BigRig. I added one of these wired series in the neck position of my G&L Kiloton 5 and really like what it brought to the sound. Wired series, the BigRig seems to have a bit more output and character than the Sadowsky soapbar. Any thoughts on this?

I love the BigRig. Seems to blend real well with an otherwise dominant P pickup. I have a BigRig in my L.E.H. PJ and it proves to be a spicy combo. More complex in a very good way. I’ve had a couple of Sadowsky’s with Sadowsky soaps which I think sound fantastic but in a PJ config I personally prefer the BigRig soloed over the Sadowsky Soapbars. More complex and woody in the mids.

Gotcha. I never use the mid boost on my WL-5, so for me, I couldn’t imagine liking the mid boost on the already mid-forward Modern pickup placement.
