I don't think anything touches Sire in that price range EXCEPT I bet the RSD pre-amp is easier to use and sounds better than a Sire, which is a win if they both play well. I don't like the Sire Marcus Miller pre-amp / knob arrangement.
The cheaper Sire basses usually have bad pots and electronics. V9 and V10 are much better. But they all are way too heavy.
Yes your iphone will add to the noise. I was experiencing noise in my signal at soundcheck and discovered that because I laid my iphone on my pedal board it was creating the extra noise...ditto if you have it near your wireless beltpack, my phone was in my pocket near the wireless beltpack.
BTW I removed the iPhone and the noise disappeared. My monitor engineer just laughed his ass off!

Well then... I may have to try that and move my iPhone/iPad that uses LTE away from the bass to see if that fixes it.
If that's the culprit to all of the noise, then how do I get rid of it or at lease reduce it? I use both of those devices to learn new material and play along with songs. So not having them at least within arm's reach I feel is a little unreasonable when my other basses both active and passive do not have or exhibit these issues.
Find a reputable guitar repair person, something very wrong here, imo. I’ve never had a problem with mobile phones near my Sadowskys, Metroline and Metro Express, both Japanese. Putting a phone on an amp creates isn’t good, though. Regarding the preamp, I usually have the treble boost off unless the strings are on the way out, and a bit of bass boost. VTC same as you would use on a passive Fender, and both basses exhibit no noise.
No reason why your bass shouldn’t be quiet, so take it to someone who knows what they’re doing.
I've only found it to be an issue when the phone is within a few inches. Like if it's in my right hand pocket while I'm playing. Simply moving it to my back pocket solves it for me. This happens with every bass that I own regardless of brand except for the most simple passive instrument.
Yes. This exactly has been the case for me as well. I should’ve made that clear. It usually only happens when the phone is in my pocket and that the bass is making contact with pocket.

I had it on my pedal board next to my DI, compressor, tuner, and tone hammer, as well as the voodoo labs power supply. I soon as I picked it up the noise stopped.
Also once had it in my back right back pocket next to my wireless beltpack, which I attach to my strap, noise...but when I put the phone in my jacket breast pocket...no noise. The phone just can't be too close to those sources. I now just keep the phone in my jacket pocket or leave it on the bus.

Beautiful - How does it compare to a regular M5? tone wise? feel? weight? Is the mid range control really needed?

Thank you Joe! Tone is very similar to a regular M5. I really love the overall feel of the Singlecuts! The weight is 8.22 on this one. I really do not use the midrange control, for my taste it is not needed but many people like that option.
I have a Will Lee and I never use the mid range control it actually dirts up the tone in my opinion
Random question - Are all custom NYC basses still hand-wired and come with select pickups wound by USA manufacturers or are all electronics (pickups, wiring harnesses, preamps, etc.) supplied by Warwick now?
