I have the German WL4 (Avatar) Single coils sound great and no noise, hum or whatsoever. They are dead quiet. Only thing is, in passive mode the volume is a bit weaker. But I have one of the early ones. Also the 5-string may sound a little different to the 4-string.
They're really putting some fantastic stuff out of the German shop!
Just a thought to add to the above... given the WLs have single coils, are all volume pots and blend the same spec as the non WLs?

Hi all, I have a tiny question: does the Metro (Japan) UV70 have the 60's or 70's bridge pickup position? I presume 70s (hence the name), but does it?
Did a little update to the MJ5 and really think it looks much better with the black hardware. The two switches are driving me a little nuts, but they appear to be part of the actual circuit board in the control cavity, so looks like best I'll be able to do with them is change the nut and washer to black ones.
I'm loving the sounds this bass produces. With both pickups on, to my ears, it lands in the tonal spectrum somewhere between my WL5 and my former 5-20 with soaps in 60s position. It's got a thicker sound than the WL5, but is more articulate than the soaps were while still having that "fat" sound I liked with the soaps. The ergonomics of this bass with the 18mm bridge spacing and resulting neck taper for the slimmer spacing are extremely comfortable and suit my hands almost perfectly. So far, I'm very glad I took a chance with the MJ5 bass!

That's sharp- you always pick "unique" configurations, but they work well. When did you order yours? Funny, during the pandemic…got restless, and sold all but one bass—then ordered some…they’re just (coincidentally) showing up around the same time. Fortunately, most were prepaid long ago, which makes it even sweeter now

I like the black hardware. It’s a good look. From your tone description this sits in a sweet spot. I’m also a fan of 18mm spacing. Nice score!

I've had the MM/J setup on Laklands and a Roscoe, and this one is my favorite of the bunch. There was always something I didn't quite connect with tone-wise on the Laklands - I found myself constantly fiddling with all of the EQ, but never settling on a sound that was it. The Roscoe, with Barts, was much better tone-wise, but it was a special order 19mm spacing model that had different neck dimensions than what I prefer, so I never quite got along with that bass feel-wise. This one, however, sounds great with the preamp flat (in the control cavity I've got the gain at max and the mids at around 60%) and feels great!
It's a Gotoh J510SJ-5 that I ordered from Arkansas Music Works. The outer holes line up perfectly, but I had to drill for the middle two and the front two.

As a new Sadowsky owner I just want to come on here and bang on a bit...
Aside from the bass being just phenomenally good, RS himself comes on here and responds to people directly. HPW from Warick responds to people directly too. Even the supplier here (Thomann) have been really great.
I'm not a professional player, but still I feel personally looked after by two of the most respected names in the industry.
I did have a custom bass on order with a different maker that ended up going wrong, and I went for an off the shelf WL5 instead, and I'm SO glad it happened that way in the end.
The difference in customer service is night and day. I don't know if I just got lucky, but the bass is just like nothing else I've ever owned. Everything is perfect and it's just a breeze to setup exactly the way I want, whereas everything else has always felt like a a bit of a compromise in some way or other. Definitely found my home base here. My only problem is my other basses are now not as good!

Agreed. A decade long desire of mine to own a Sadowsky Will Lee was finally recently realized by Warwick. My hesitation at first was the NYC pricing. Then the Kikuchi variants became available but with fewer features. Now, I have a Warwick Sadowsky MetroLine Will Lee RW4 with every feature developed by Roger plus invisible fret ends. Can’t be happier.

I had a beautiful Lakland 5594 that was the same for me - always fiddling with the tone and not getting the sound I was after. It also had a chunky neck that was a strain on my fretting hand so I sold it. One of my basses has 18mm spacing and the slightly smaller neck profile is really comfortable to play.
