Club Sadowsky!!!

I love my nyc PJ5, and I was wondering if there exists a Sadowsky like this:

• nyc
• PJ5 (reverse P)
• 18mm (or smaller) bridge spacing
• Precision body
• 24 frets
• "standard" model (I can't afford a custom order)

Are all of these features available in one bass? Which ones are the hardest to find?

Ok, so I'm a huge fan of my recently acquired SMX Hybrid P/J 5. It pairs really well with my Fender Am. Ultra Pbass. I'm considering the SML Hybrid P/J 5(Pbass-shape). I'm trying to figure out if it's worth 3x more monies to go SML vs SMX? What am I getting, besides the VTC and a lighter bass? I'm also looking to blackout whatever I end up with, as I am a superfan of black hardware! I already started on the SMX with the black pickguard.

This'll also help me sort out this Modern-24 dilemma, buy one SML Modern-24 or wait and buy two SMX Modern's. TIA!

Anyone know the months and year(s) the RSD MetroExpress 3rd batch was made? I’m looking at one with serial # 004407 21 meaning made in 2021, I’m guessing in July of that year. Curious if it’s from batch 2 or batch 3 of the Chinese made MEs.

I recommend Black screws too. Pickups and pickguard. Cheap to do, and adds a subtle elegance to the bass when you’re changing it to a black motif. You really wanna get crazy? Ebony poly stain on the fingerboard. Cleaned up a very blotchy board on this fretless. But that would be a bold move.

I've totally thought about doing an Ebony stain on a fretboard, because I'm also an Ebony fretboard superfan! My Spectors and my Stingrays all have black Ebony boards. My Ultra Pbass has an Ebony board, but it's very splotchy, I'd love to stain it completely black!

Does this operation require a professional?

Nope. But I do recommend removing the neck and masking off everything but the fingerboard.

This is coming along swimmingly…….NOS 2020 P/J4 Hybrid burst with Maple Fingerboard restomod. Now has the 2024 VTC Plate with the MEC pots, same as the Metroline. AND the upgraded 2024 MetroExpress bridge. Headstock is now configured correctly with the proper badging and hardware. Have a clear guard coming from Tony at Pickguardian.com that should arrive soon. P pickup mountings have been recentered for correct placement in the new guard. P Pickup cavity has been blackened to create a better background for the P pickups ( I didn’t want the raw wood to standout under the clear guard) New Elixir strings, setup, and settle in time ahead. Not sure if I’m gonna sell it. This is one of my best restomods.

But the most striking thing is this…….7lbs 8oz. I’m in shock. Can’t imagine the clear guard and screws will add more than a few ounces. Insane.

I have a sunburst PJ 5-string. I was thinking about swapping the white pickguard for a (dare I say) tort. I may do it sometime down the road when I get bored, but right now I’m okay. The bass is fantastic and I really dig it’s superb hi-def sound and incredible workmanship

I just realized that the PJ 5 hybrid Metroline that I recently acquired was listed for trade here on TB back in 2022.

I was under the impression that these basses are mass produced and not particularly rare?

Maybe it’s just a coincidence.

Liking the Hipshot A Bridge in Aluminum on the Modern as well.

I have a sunburst PJ 5-string. I was thinking about swapping the white pickguard for a (dare I say) tort. I may do it sometime down the road when I get bored, but right now I’m okay. The bass is fantastic and I really dig it’s superb hi-def sound and incredible workmanship

Tort on a burst finish is a classic and great look. I find the plain white on the burst to be a tad understated, and actually takes away from a nice burst finish.

Here's the bass - the sunburst is nice. The white pick guard doesn't look bad - it just doesn't look great.

I switch any bass that doesn't come with Dunlop strap locks, to them, incl. my Sadowskys.

I did use the Dunlop screws, not the Schaller screws.

I'll be switching all the hardware to black shortly.

when I ordered a chrome 19mm bridge to replace the 18mm SMX bridge, it was shown as available in 11 weeks, but it was shipped within a week, and arrived at my doorstep on the 8th day.

I think you misread my question. I’m planning to replace the Sadowsky strap locks with standard Dunlop strap buttons—not Dunlop strap locks. Maybe the standard buttons use the same screws as their strap locks. Have the shorter screws stayed fastened to your bass or did you end up filling the area with crazy glue as that person suggested?

The existing screw hole diameter is slightly smaller. The Dunlop screws fit tightly.

I swap Dunlop buttons into all my sadowskys. No drilling is required. It takes literally 30 seconds.
