This is me testing the neck pickups soloed which I believe are the same on both models. Pickup heights are the same. Preamp settings are the same. Both have new batteries.

Any ideas? Might have Sadowsky changed the pickups between 20 and 22 even though they are both called a "Sadowsky Passive Split J Single-coil"?

Early 2020 preamps had more gain and were reduced to match the passive level.

Well, that is a strong opinion. I recently got a 2024 Metroexpress modern 4. I too, am not fond of the clip on back cover. I found it difficult to remove without tools and difficult to re-attach firmly. Would much rather see a traditional ( or better yet color matched) cover with machine screws and threaded inserts

Does anyone else here have a little love/hate with their bass?
I do.
I recently purchased a Metroline MIG Hybrid 5 string PJ bass with VTC.
It's an amazing instrument from the playability, to the construction, the finish, etc.

I've been struggling with the tone though.

I think that perhaps the noiseless pickups are too polite for me? I'm missing the growl from the bridge pickup.

The P bass tone is awesome, and I get a lot of that character, but when I want that growly, burpy sound from the bridge pickup, I can't seem to coax it out.

Am I alone on this?

Any hints on tone settings?

Finally brought my MIG Metroline SC5 for jamming session, and the modern position soapbars sounded amazing, notes are even, and just so much punch.

Slight boost of bass and treble on the bass preamp, little compression from empress bass comp, blend in some drive from Sansamp BDDI.

I did have to bring the PU closer to the strings for a more aggressive tone.

One of my buddies just got one of these basses and it sounds absolutely amazing. What he learned was that the bass sounds better in active mode and to use the EQ controls very judiciously (he just gooses the bass control a wee bit).

Love Love Love it. Now that it’s settled in to US climate, and the setup is really low n’ fast, it plays like a very expensive bass. I think the torrification makes the neck much more rigid, and the maple board even snappier than an untreated board. I always preferred the Soapbars as they are extremely clear without being merciless to bad technique. ( Read: MTD, Fodera, etc)

Sadowsky bodies are my home as Ive been playing them for over 15 years. So the whole thing is a home run.

The weird thing is, I just can’t pass up a bargain, so i just copped an old RSD P/J4 burst with maple board for $307. Gonna VTC it, Hipshot bridge, and some cosmetics. Maybe I’ll put flats on it. Who knows. I definitely got a Sadowsky condition.
