2018
Refinished from matte black to the color change with matching headstock by Pat Wilkins in late 2023.
AMAZING finish which after I posted it, Sadowsky Germany did two metros in the same finish.
Just the two small dings as shown.

Chambered alder with rosewood.
Doesn’t not include clear ramp (that’s on my other bass now).
Sadowsky molded soft sided form fit case that they used to offer years ago.

I’m not sure if I ever posted this NBD, back around last Thanksgiving. Yeah, I’ve been preoccupied.
The short version, I was having my “ultimate” bass being built by Roger, and after a 15 month build there were a few things that I just wasn’t happy with (being the anal retentive type that I am). There were a few suggestions but I didn’t want to take more time, and additional cost to Roger, or take a chance on the outcome.
So Roger, being the consummate gentleman that he is, offered me this in-stock bass to try. I did, and loved it the minute I had it in my hands. We made one mod, a coil tap switch for the hum cancelling pickups(like my custom order had). He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.
I love everything about this Mango topped beauty. And I’m more impressed with Roger and company every day.

Quick question for the Sadowsky fans. The other day, I was playing and noticed my 5-21 has a really thick headstock. I measured and the thickness is 2cm compared with 1.5cm on all my other basses. I’m sure this adds to stability and tone. But I don’t recall other Sadowskys I’ve owned being this thick.

I was just curious if all Sadowskys are this thick? Or is it just certain models? Random?

Yes, Roger makes his headstocks thicker to help fight against the typical Fender “dead spot.” This is similar effect to the old Fathead brass headstock accessory that used to be a thing which helped move or somewhat eliminate the dead spot by adding mass to the headstock.

I have to ask why do you make the headstock thicker?

I have found that mass on the headstock improves tone and eliminates or lessens dead spots. In fact, I have found that lightweight tuners will make dead spots worse.

Question for Super J pickup owners.
I'm debating whether to order a bass with this pickup, but there aren't many videos on YouTube, and from what there are, the difference between the three modes is very small.
How is your experience with this pickup?

It's funny that they titled it 'luthiers' since Sadowsky hates that term. He went off on a bit of a rant about that somewhere in this 57-minute interview but I don't remember where.
