I have an amazing Sadowsky Roasted Ash/Maple Sadowsky Ultra Vintage J5 that tonally does everything I love and it looks amazing. It rocks my world with the exception that it's just slightly under 9 lbs which sometimes feels a bit heavy on my aging shoulder.

I want a Sadowsky Ash/Maple 5 string JJ (60's spacing) hat's closer to 8lbs than my UV-J5 and I recently fell in love with a NYC Will Lee 5 string on the recent stock update. I am aware there are some dip switches and midrange options on the Will Lee and I'm curious to know if it can deliver a very familiar similar sound as my NYC UV-J5?

I've also not played a 5 String with the Will Lee string spacing which I believe is slightly narrower than UV-J5? Welcome input from anyone who owns or has tried a Will Lee 5 String model who can comment on any tonal differences to a non Will Lee 5 string in the same woods?

I just realized the Metroline 21 P/J bass has two options. A p bass body (Hybrid) or jazz body (Vintage). Not much difference but which one do you prefer and why? They apparently have the same jazz neck

i've personally always preferred the J body's look/feel, but honestly, it's not a big deal for me. if i found a good deal on one with the P body, i'd jump on it with no hesitation.

Do all of the metro express 5 strings share the same neck? The J and Moderns have extra space on each side of the neck, allowing you to swap for the 18mm for a 19mm bridge. From the pictures, the M and JM models don’t appear to have the same extra space on each side of the neck.

I just ordered this 5 string P/J bass with the vintage body (jazz body) from American Musical Supply America and mine will be the same color as in the video.


This is my first Sadowsky bass guitar. I cant wait to get it.

I also just ordered the Sadowsky preamp which I will be getting installed in my 5 string American standard Jazz bass. Glad to be part of the Sadowsky family. I had a nice conversation with Rodger and he answered all my questions. Very nice, down to earth man.

I don't know, is the tort guard an improvement on the original mint? I'm not really a tort fan but this one came with the bass when I got it so I thought I'd try it. Was sort of musing on a white pearl or aged pearl. Maybe even black.

This week I received what I think is the best bass I’ve ever played:

Will Lee TYO
Completed in Dec 2010
Mahogany (chambered) body with 3A Koa top
Roasted maple neck
Madagascar rosewood fb

For those who don’t know, the TYO serie was the « master built » of the Japan factory were the Metroline was made. Not to be confused with the Tokyo line that didn’t had the same preamp.

Koa has always been my favorite wood. When I saw this bass for sale in Japan (on ebay), I had to have it! It was a crazy purchase but so much worth it. While I find Sadowsky basses in general way more even sounding on the fretboard than other manufacturers, this Will Lee is on another level. The notes are so incredibly even everywhere on the neck! The body resonates perfectly and the Will Lee neck makes for a super fast feeling.

It’s also my first experience with the Will Lee preamp. For now I’ve settled on 500Hz wide Q which after I made my choice I learned is also Will’s choice! It’s interesting to switch between the « regular » preamp sound and the mid boost with the flick of a switch. Very well made considering you can choose the amount of boost and general volume with the boost engaged.

The single coils J are a little more agressive than the HC I’m used to and at least at home, are pretty quiet. Complements nicely with the mahogany body which is also a first for me. Could I say it’s kind of a mix of the best properties of alder and ash? I was afraid it would be dark sounding but I wouldn’t say so. Madagascar rosewood fits perfectly with it. This is an example where all the woods were perfectly choosen and I totally understand the master built tag.

I had to go thru a broker to get this bass to me in Canada. You know when you see the same instrument listed by many « sellers » on ebay? These guys basically go purchase the bass locally for you and ship it to you. Was it worth it? In this case, I’d say yes. I feel like I got a special instrument, made with care out of premium woods.
