Gator and Protec seem to make decent stuff in their premium lines in my experience. I use them (as well as my super old original portabags, which are showing wear, but still doing ok). FWIW.
I can 2nd the Protec bags, I have used them for years.

they shut that division down many years ago to focus on cases for small electronics like phones and tablets, etc.
Here's a techy-type question then... I have 2 MIJ PJ5s, one from 2013 (blk) and one from 2017 (vntg). The '13 has a 500k master volume pot, the '17 has a 250k. I don't run my basses wide open - I generally have the master around the 7 or 8 mark... With the 500k, no issues. With the 250k, it seems to want to be dimed or certain notes create a sound reminiscent to dust in the pot.
The pups in each are identical Nordys so, assuming the pots are clean, because they are, is this a 500k versus 250k phenomenon, or is there a different possible reason? Why would the shop flip to a different pot, or is one not original? Everything else matches under the hood.

I think Roger switched over to 500k pots. 500k they are a little brighter than 250k IMHO...More open sound might be a better description.
I just looked at my oldest MIJ and it's 250k.
My wife just (jokingly) asked me if I was looking at porn on my laptop. Apparently I had a strange look on my face and wasn't responding to her.

Tritto. A bit smaller and much lighter than the Sadowsky bag, and plenty of protection if your circuit is home/car/gig/car/home. Just now wearing out the strap on one I've used forever...and now using a US Sadowsky bag that has some clearly superior features (including better sizing for long-headstock instruments), but isn't quite as nimble as the Protec Contego, in the grab and go mode.
After a couple of issue free weeks of playing, my output dropped out on my Metro Express modern 24, when it started working there was a lot of noise. Bass is dead silent when not touching anything. The distortion or noise can be heard when adjusting a know and sounds different than a "scratchy" pot. There is a lot of distortion when playing it, with every note. Under the cover it looked like a rats nest, nothing like the photos I have seen from others. As I got it second hand, I am not expecting warranty service. But curious on if any one had ideas on where to start looking for cause. My plan was to replace the whole harness with the VTC version but didn't see a US based option to purchase.

Hey Sadowsky gang. I got the chance to gig with my fretless MetroExpress a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to splitting out some of the video from that evening. I played 3 or 4 tunes on electric that night, and this is one of my newest originals. We did it on double bass in the studio, but the original concept for the tune was demo'ed on electric and it works well. Still very impressed with how this bass works in a jazz duo setting.... very punchy but it has a nice 'spread' that fills things out well.
Just a post to testify to how awesome this Sadowsky bass is. Such an amazing instrument. Can't get over how it just sounds so perfect with every note being so full and even. Love it!

So, as a few of you know, I started this whole “club” back in 2007.
But long before that I’ve been using Rogers basses. Since 1998 to be exact- I had a used Modern 5 for a bit.
I ordered my first Sadowsky from Roger in late 1998/1999 and it came sometime in 1999, I believe it was late spring/early summer.
Played the snot out of it until roughly 2006 or so and sold it to a TB’r -Jonathan Starr, who I just found out sadly passed this last March.
He had the bass up until his passing and his estate was moving his instruments when I saw it pop up on the Sadowsky NYC Bass Owners Facebook page.
I IMMEDIATELY jumped at it to get her back. Jonathan reached out about 10-12 years ago asking if I wanted to buy it back, and at the time I wasn’t in a place to be able to get it unfortunately and since then I lost touch with Jonathan and never knew where the bass was. Figured it was sold and someone was hanging on to it.
But oddly, I was speaking with a gear nerd guitar player buddy like a few months ago and said there’s two basses I’d move hell and high water to get if I ever came across them- my very early Smith Chuck Rainey 5, and 3144.
Well, deals were made and she showed up today.
After a good thorough cleaning and a restring, she’s exactly like I remembered.
So, 3144 made its way back to me via Maui and NYC, now back in the Detroit area never to leave again.
It’s great for me, and I sincerely wish that circumstances in how it popped back up didn’t occur, as Jonathan was a great guy, and I’d happily still be wondering where it was if he was still with us.
So, RIP and GodSpeed Jonathan Starr. Thank you looking down and for allowing me to have her back. I’ll play her in your honor my friend.

Something new arrived today. A while back, I had reached out to Roger about doing a build of (almost) this exact bass. But in the end, I decided against it. The timing wasn’t right. But at least once a week, I click on ‘Available NYC Builds’, to see what’s coming available. Imagine my surprise when this popped up. Plus it has binding/blocks and the humcanceling J’s are in 70s position. It just showed up and it’s a beautiful. Sounds/plays great. Serious tone!
