Club Sadowsky!!!

Howdy folks! I'm finally getting my hands on a Sadowsky.
I was originally looking for a MIJ UV70 jazz with the blocks and binding but couldn't find the color combo I was looking for. Saw this over in the classifieds. Purchased a month ago by the original owner NOS from his dealer.

I was looking for the most versatile bass that would cover the most territory tone wise in a live setting when switching styles and sounds. I hope this one will fulfill those needs. The deal was too good to pass up.

For 2023. Does anyone happen to know if these bodies were chambered or solid?

Fretboard is morado, is it true that this wood choose is right in the middle between maple and rosewood?

I haven't played a Sadowsky before but confident this should be a pretty great versatile instrument. Thanks for checking it out.

That's beautiful. Morado (Pau Ferro) is harder than Rosewood, which is harder than Maple. At least that's what I've always been told. That Morado on your board looks like it's had a few oilings, has darkened slightly from the shade of mine, on my ME fretless hybrid. Here's a pic for comparison.

Wow that's quite the contrast. We shall see when it arrives. It could simply be wood lottery. The owner appears to just bought it new old stock a month ago and looked a little dry to me.

Edit: It totally escaped my mind that morado is Pau. So tonally I would think we are basically a brighter rosewood.

Could just be the picture too. Also, it's possible that this being a MetroLine it was oiled when it was built, or as you say, it could be the wood lottery. I don't doubt that the MetroLine would be built to a higher standard than the MetroExpress.

The color of my Morado board pretty much matches the Morado boards of the EBMM rays built in the Custom Shop. I don't know if Morado darkens much as it ages, but it does darken when it is oiled. I was careful not to let the oil sink in when I oiled mine with F-1, which I did just to seal the board, yet it did darken slightly.

Yeah, tonally it is just slightly brighter sounding than Rosewood. Not nearly as bright as Ebony. Personally, I really like the tone, which was exceptional with the Sadowsky Black Label SS rounds it came with. With the Chrome flats I put on, it's still bright but lacks the upper harmonics, but that's flats for you. My old fingers just could not handle the SS rounds.

Congratulations on the incoming Sadowsky. I have two of these German ML PJs, in CAR and in Sunburst like yours, except with a white (parchment?) guard. I like the looks of that tort guard much better!

Ya, the strange part is I havn't been able to find the original website url or much in terms of promo materials etc other than a few other dealers selling this model color combo. I've never really been a big burst fan but this one seems to have a nice richness and depth to it. I think the tort definitely adds to it.

I just tried a used metroexpress jazz pj at my local guitar center and it had a nice response and snap when needed even on horribly dead guitar center showroom strings so the German built should be quite the treat.

Yes, supposed to be better p'ups and also the VTC that people say is really helpful on the Pre. I love the tone on my ME. It is definitely the best tone of my 5 electric basses. My Ovation ABG can beat it, but is a bear to play, I come away ham-fisted if I play it for more than a short time.

Just had a thought.. I'm sure this has to have been done before.

German basses with adjust-a-nuts.
Has anyone bought a second nut just for the top to be able to quickly switch between EADG and BEAD?

Figure its a 2 piece nut and you wouldnt have to blow away a stock eadg nut with this setup, just swap out the tops.

Your '59 Burst transcends the usual sunburst! I like the figuring in the body wood and the way the finish, the tort and the morado board look together.

If it's chambered wouldn't that be stated in the Certificate Of Authenticity?

On the Thomann website the Masterbuilt, Custom Shop, and limited edition models mention chambered bodies in the specs but the regular Metrolines. don't.

I did some more research and apparently these are chambered which I figured as its under 8lbs. Apparently they now offer a solid oft version of the hybrid pj but they have maple fingerboards and different finishes.

After almost selling my MX 5 (blaming it for some wrist pain) I decided to give it one more go. I bought the Sadowsky black label nickel strings and really spent some time getting the setup dialed in. Small adjustment to the nut....small adjustment to the pickup height and getting the action just right. The mix of all those components really woke this bass up! I've been using it on the last few gigs and I have been more than pleased. Most of the time I leave the bass/treble rolled down and just use the tone and p/u blend knob to shape the sound. If the situation calls for it I might add on some bass or treble but it doesn't take much. Really happy I didn't sell this....my Lakland is on the chopping block.
