Totally in the swim with DR Fat-Breams, Pure Blues and Sunbeams--mostly a Pure Blues user, but recently using some Sunbeams on an MIJ Will Lee 5. Have enjoyed Sadowsky Black Label flats - have some on a fretless that sat in a package for 7-8 years, and they sound great.

Yes, I have some old Black Label flats on my one NYC, a PJ. Great tone. I hope they last forever.

I now have a couple of gigs on this new ML M/J 5.

This is the most Jazz Bass 5 string I have ever gigged. Perhaps, not the cosmetics; but, with both pickups in single coil mode, it just feels and sounds Jazz Bass. It feels and sounds like my ‘62. Blows away every other 5 string Jazz I’ve gigged, for my prefs. Absolutely outstanding instrument. I’ve been playing 5 string basses since 1989, and this is the first to check all my Jazz Bass boxes. End of GAS for a J5.

I am still learning how to use the M pickup. The gig a week ago included Smooth Operator on the Playlist; and that M pickup in Series mode nailed the bass break. Glorious. That pickup in Series combined with the neck pickup is also useful for certain slap sounds; but, I’m still trying to figure out where that sound slots in.

Finally got a chance to try a Modern. 2021 Metroline German at GC. It felt amazing despite it having flats. Light, responsive, and the neck was beautiful.

Unfortunately the kid slapping nirvana (?) across from me meant I couldn’t really test it out properly. Will have to go back.

I went in to a GC a few weeks ago and it was the same thing... some things never change

I absolutely love DR sunbeams on all of my basses. They sound especially good on my NYC Verdine White.
I tried hi beams on it but they were crazy bright for my tastes, Sunbeams are just right.

I know it is debatable but I also strongly consider how Bass sounds acoustically
when purchasing been that way since my first Bass in '75

When I sit down to test a new bass, I begin with it unplugged. Aside from initial tone, I am listening for fret buzz or hardware rattling that might otherwise be hidden while plugged in with the volume turned up.

A little late posting this, but here are the pics for my Sadowsky NBD. I'm truly thrilled with this bass. Perfect in every way--no complaints. The ordering experience, the conversations with Roger and Lukasz, the bass and the all the case candy--just amazing all around. Now I see why people fall in love with the brand.

The bass is so lightweight, and balances perfectly. I've played a few gigs with it already and it just sits perfectly in the mix.

As much as I love Fodera, I think I'm falling in love with Sadowsky.

Hello, would any Modern owners be willing to measure their bass from the 12th fret to the center of each pickup?
