It's about freakin time!! Sadowsky has been at the top of my list for years. It's not actually in my hands yet, but it's bought and paid for. I've got a chrome 70's style pickup cover I'm going to install over the neck pickup as soon as I get her. Here are a couple pics.

Thing is, even with old strings these continue to sound really good (and again... yeah broken record...), especially in a mix, but with fresh strings... wow... sizzle for days!

This has been discussed to some extent in this thread but not specifically the combination I have. I have a Sadowsky Standard 5 with Sadowsky Soaps in the J position. For some change, I am thinking of having Carey Nordstrand make me some pickups in the EMG 40 shell to try out in the Standard. Not that I don't like it the way it is. Just looking to try something different. The bass has a mahogany body and Brazilian board and is already warmer than any other Sadowsky I have owned or played. So, I am not sure which Nordstrand pickups I would put in it. I am probably leaning towards the Big Singles or Dual Coils. Fat Stacks are not out of the question though. Obviously, the Dual Coil would, in theory, get me something similar to what I have and the Big Singles would be somewhat different. Anyway, I am just throwing this one out there for opinions. I know a bunch of you have 24-5s with Big Singles but with my pickups in a different position, it is going to be a bit different.
I don't think you should waste your time with swapping out the pickups - just sell that thing to me...
Otherwise, I would probably try Big Singles (or Fat Stacks). Since the routes are in JJ territory already, it should be a great combo.

I don't know how the big single sound but I have some experience with the Nordstrand dual coil on another bass. After consulting with Stew from Nordstrand pickups I installed a split switch that turned the pickups into singles (using the outer coils). The sound is incredible, better than most singles I ever tried, FYI. BTW, if you go this way you can hide the switch inside the control cavity (set and forget) without modifying anything.

Yeah, I have both blacks and blues, and while I do like them both, especially the blacks on the 24-Fret 5 and the blues on the JJ/PJ, I still prefer the HB's at least on the JJ.And yeah, IMHO, the VTC is a must-have on a Sadowsky.

OK Guys! you have to stops showing me this bass. Friday I was in the Amp Shop in Sherman Oaks,CA and I played the bass just like it and went home with the biggest GAS cramp.
The bass was one of the most playable instruments I have seen in a long time. Everything about it is just right. Please stop. I can't take it anymore.James
Was it an NYC or a Metro? Because you can pretty much get this exact same config in a Metro since it doesn't have any fancy woods or finishes. That means especially if you find one used, you should be able to really score a good deal. I think if it has blocks that makes it the UV, which has 70's spacing, so I think despite whatever similarities there are, that would still make a significant difference. I'd recommend sticking with the MV5 if that was the sound that really "did it" for someone. Not too long ago, I was a bigger fan of the 70's spacing, but these days, I find myself happier with the slightly fuller and fatter sounding 60's spacing.You beat me to it Vic..I was about to say the same thing. There is a 4 and 5 string with blocks on the in stock list right now.There may be a slight weight difference but tonally they will be very similar!
Well, keep your eyes peeled on the various online bass sellers as well as ebay and here at TB. That ash/maple combo is really popular and pops up somewhat frequently used, which will save you several hundred dollars (and maybe some brownie points with the little lady as well).

The grain on that bass you played, (if it is the one on their website) is just sick. One of the prettiest, front and back, that I've seen in quite some time.
