Honestly, I'm not worried about which will sound better live. In my experience, the only one who *really* cares (in a roomful of drunken dancers) is me. What I'm worried about is hum and which will sound more wicked when recorded. I'm going to go check out Basstasters, now that I've been reminded of the site's name...

If you're worried about hum get the HC.
Dead silent in all kinds of evil environments, and it gives up very, very little top end.

Also, there's the550k pot mod which Roger mentioned some time ago in the last version of this thread that is supposed to move the HC's closer to SC response.

Yeah...Vic's both a great friend, and a complete jerkface. ;) I was perfectly happy with my basses at home, until I played this bass in the mix at church!

That bass plays like the smoothest side of a baby's rump, and the sound guy at church absolutely loved the tone I had going on.

Even my wife, who generally doesn't pay attention to my tone or the basses I play commented that she loves the look and sound of that P/J. Hopefully, that will help me to get one in the doors faster! :D

My fenderowsky doesn't even come close to touching this bass!

Yeah, I worry about hum a lot. Though my guitarist used to have it worse than me: his old Ovation used to pick up the radio on the stage we play the most. It was an excuse for him to buy a nice Taylor! :D

HUm tends to wreck my love of an instro in a big way. It's the one issue I have with my current go-to bass. It's a great-sounding axe, but in some environments, the supposedly hum-cancelling neck pup makes all-manner of humming noise. Drives me right round the twist.

You know, I think the two sound close enough that getting the HCs and trying the pot mod mentioned above will make me happy.

Nice treatments of those songs. Especially the first. We did something similar this year with 'We Three Kings.' Kate Rusby's 'Here We Come A-wassailing' has given me all sorts of ideas for next year.

I keep thinking that a fretless would be good for this sort of stuff, though I liked what I heard in your clip a lot.

I know that the JJ is the "gold standard" and far and away seems the favorite, but frankly I think the Metro PJ is all that and a bag of chips.

Just walked in the door from an early gig tonight with my PJ5. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that bass rules. I'm a dyed in the wool JJ fanatic but for gigging in a cover band as I do, you cannot beat the versatility of that PJ combo. Plus it just glues the mix together -- amazing.
