Well, the trigger has been pulled. The UV70 arrived, and after a coupla' test drives, I knew it was one for the arsenal. The bad news? The finish. Thinking all along this one was going to be natural...and picturing the pearl blocks & white binding (and white guard) against natural ash had me feeling all happy. Unfortunately...turns out this one was ordered in trans white. Here's an iPhone shot @ the store:

In the scheme of things, this is actually a good thing. Not staring google-eyed at the bass really made me focus on the sound. Realistically, it had me at hello. I spent about 30 minutes with it, trying to find a tone I didn't like. I've been seriously jonesing for an ash/maple Sadowsky, and this one just totally speaks to me. So, even though it's not my favorite finish, I think I'll be able to make some music with this thing.

Which is exactly what I tried to do after picking it up on Saturday. Had a trio hit, and since the leader requested some funky stuff, it seemed to be the perfect opportunity to welcome this bass to the family. Here it is...

And, a sound clip. Everything flat on the amp, tweeter @ 10 o'clock on the cab. On the bass the blend was centered, VTC just north of center, bass @ ~ 3, treble @ ~ 2.

I think this one is a keeper. Now I just need to get used to that big body.

You know Jerry, I'm thinking that I really like the current pickguard that's on your bass. It just looks right to me.

Although the pearl may just set off the blocks on the fingerboard. I usually like to leave things as they are for a bit before making changes, though.

That is one sweet looking bass and sounds pretty darn good, too. Oh and it's really cool that you the extra effort to include clips along with the photos.

In this round, it is Sadowksy PJ vs Danelectro Baritone guitar. Messing around in Logic and recorded this while the g/f was in the tub (ie one take for each instrument track, and made it up as I went along). First put the drum loop in, then tracked the baritone guitar, then bass, then the acoustic guitars. Baritone and bass direct into Apogee One, acoustic from the Apogee One built-in mic. Almost no post - some software compressor on each track and killed the eq below 200hz on the baritone. PJ is just a hair towards neck with a touch of bass rolled up.

Interesting to put Baritone and bass in the same sonic space...

Hey guys, quick question - I've got a Sadowsky Vintage 4 (RW\Ash) and am due for a string change. I've been using DR Lo Rider Nickels and love the tone profile, just want a little brighter edge with more grind. Just bought a set of the LoRider SS - do you think this will do the trick? I was going to go with FatBeams, but read some negative stuff about them here, so decided to pass.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you want the same feel (at least as far as stiffness) but with "a little brighter edge with more grind", I agree with your choice... move to SS. They'll feel stickier to you since SS isn't as slickery as nickel, but I would think they'd do what you want tone-wise. HiBeams would also sound great, but they feel slinkier due to the round core, so that's something to consider.
