I'm thinking of trying the 500k pot in my new-to-me metro 5, which means drilling out the hole. My question is whether or not there is an appropriate 250k pot available for the new size if I end up not liking it?

The reason I want to try it is that I've always thought the 4 string HCs sounded a little tiny bit better than the 5 string HCs, want to see if it will open up the tone a bit on the 5 relative to the 4. Does anybody agree with that observation or am I crazy?

I don't think it'd be a problem to put the old pot back in. By the time you factor in the lockwasher and tighten the nuts down, it's not gonna move, and it still should be big enough to grab all the way around when centered. Otherwise, clearly, you can just get a 250K from Sadowsky (or maybe one of the NYC upgraders here). :)

Are all of the different fingerboard woods on the same body wood? Are the bodies alder or ash? I am very interested to hear your take on differences between the different fingerboard woods. From what I have read Madagascar and Brazilian rosewood sound very similar has that been your experience? How does the morado sound in comparison?

Here's what I got: J4 Ash/Mad, J4 W/L Ash/Braz, J4 Alder/Morado, J4 Ash/Maple, P4 Alder/Morado.

Its true, Madagascar and Brazilian sound most alike. The morado however is a little snappier or brighter but not as much as Maple. I've never been a big fan of the traditional Alder/Rosewood because to my ears its a tad muddy and lack of definition. Now, if you ad a Ash body to a Rosewood board, then its more in my alley. I think the slap tone is nicer without becoming to Marcus Miller like. The same is kinda true with the Addition of a Morado board to a Alder body. It seems to take the mush away without being too bright.

I never tried a Ash/Morado but I assume its getting closer to Ash/Maple. I also never tried a Alder/Maple.

In the end, Its easy to tame a little too bright with the VTC but its impossible to ad it to a muddy bass.

this is all opinion base.

P.S. I think I'm done buying basses, for awhile. I got everything I need. Sorry Roger.

I thought when I finally got my full set of Selmer Mark VI saxes (that I've had for 20 years) that I was done buying sets of instruments.

Then my world changed in 91 when I got my first Sadowsky. I told my wife, I think we are going to have a problem here!:D:D
