They were prototypes and he never made any more.

I was under the impression Sadowsky put the J a bit closer to the bridge on all PJ configurations
Or did I misread something?

Hey, I have an idea... I think the gold anodized guard is TOTALLY AMAZING on a '59 burst, so Joel, here's the plan...
Get a '59 burst P5/PJ5, put that guard on there, and THEN put a new tort guard on your new blonde PJ5. K? Joel gets two completely amazing classic bombshells, the anodized guard doesn't get retired (as it should not be), Roger makes two sales, and some of my GAS goes away. Everybody's happy.

I picked up my NYC PJ5 in the classifieds here on TB last year. It's pretty much been my main bass ever since. I play it through a GK 2001 RB + Aggie GS112's in my prog metal band.
It's got the "swimming pool" route in the neck position for a J or the reverse P options. I'm going to try out the reverse P tonight and see how that sounds. I'd also love to get a single J just to have the option of swapping that out if I feel so inclined.
That one popped op in classifieds literally a day after I ordered my black rev. PJ5.
I was really torn bewteen getting this one and cancelling my order or wait for mine....
I must say, I still dig the all black thing, though....

My PJ and my JJ. Both NYC:
My PJ:
from the 12th fret to the middle of the magnets of the treble side of the P: 28cm - 11"
from the 12th fret to the middle of the magnets of the bass side of the P: 31 cm. - 12.02"
from the 12th fret to the middle of the magnets on the j: 36.5 cm - 14.37"
My J:
from the 12th fret to the middle of the magnets on the bridge j: 36.5 cm - 14.41"
from the 12th fret to the middle of the magnets on the neck j: 27.6 cm - 10.87"
It's pretty cool to find out things like that! It certainly went to a good home. I love the thing...
How long did you have it? Any recordings or videos with it? I'm not sure who Kenny is, but I assume he's the original owner? It would be cool to know all the history.
Yeah, I saw a bunch that came up but none had exactly what I was looking for until this came around. I had to have it...
I too dig the all black thing very much. So much that I wish it had an ebony board with no markers...

I'll take your word for it. I never looked into it. Just going by the old film clips and whatnot I've seen, but most/all of those admittedly were from later in time, so I totally believe you.

Ok, I got curious and did a tiny bit of digging... I think it was actually his jazz bass unless he used someone else's bass for the recording sessions, which I'd doubt.
"At the age of 14, Jones became choirmaster and organist at a local church and during that year, he also bought his first bass guitar, a Dallas solid body electric followed by a 1961 Fender Jazz Bass which he used until 1975."
He was born in '46, so he apparently had that Dallas for only a year or so if he bought it when he was 14, in 1960.
However I did also find this...

Thank you, Roger. I'll bet people have been pestering you for many years about building a Sadowsky 6. What was the reasoning behind not making any more? Too difficult, too time consuming, too little demand?

I've been working on learning classic bass lines. I was working on Dazed and Confused last night with my RV4. I was thinking that JPJ must have used a Jazz for that recording. So I put my RV4 into passive mode and thought that I was getting a very close approximation to the correct tonality. I love having that passive option.
