I've been working on learning classic bass lines. I was working on Dazed and Confused last night with my RV4. I was thinking that JPJ must have used a Jazz for that recording. So I put my RV4 into passive mode and thought that I was getting a very close approximation to the correct tonality. I love having that passive option.

JPJ is the only bass player I've ever heard that could make a Fender Tremolo sound good (Heartbreaker).

My bass is a standard, any tips for drilling through the wood to avoid chipping the finish?

That is a whole other animal. The problem is, the flutes on drill bits that size are fairly large, and tend to grab is the speed isn't sufficient. Whenever drilling anything other than metal I always use a removable masking tape to help avoid chipping. THIS WILL NOT GUARANTEE IT WON'T CHIP!! I MUST state that for I wouldn't want you to ruin your finish. I have experience working with wood and metal so I am comfortable doing this mod. If you have ANY reservation, bring it to a qualified repair tech. The piece of mind will be worth the price alone. You still can try it out as I stated in the other post before you decide to enlarge the hole.

I already have a Metro UV-70 5 string that is an insanely good bass. I wanted something with a rosewood board that would be closer to the 60's Fender vibe, since the UV-70 can be a little grindy/aggressive sounding for some situations.

This is measured from the outside of the 12th fret facing toward the body.

Hey Gang,
I noticed different pickup spacking on 24 fret 4 string jazz basses. Sometimes the neck pickup is closer to the fretboard. Is that the difference between 60's and 70's style spacing but for a 24 fret?

Here's a shot of my new Metro UV70-MW-ASH5.

I actually posted when I first got it that I wasn't loving the B-string. I suspected it was a string problem rather than a bass problem. Rob (dragonbass) hooked me up with a fresh set of Sadowsky SS Blue Label Strings and now the B is killer! Thanks again Rob!

Gotta love the Sadowsky crew!

Excuse my poor photography skills. I'm thinking of doing it up with a b/w/b pickguard and maybe a chrome neck pickup cover.
