I also think you have a beautiful bass, but to your question, I also wonder about it. I've left both the back sheet and the bridge pickup protector on, but I'm thinking about pulling the back sheet off at least. On the bridge pickup cover tho... I may continue to use that one.

I think Tom Bowlus still had his back sheet on his (totally friggin' amazing) NYC PJ5 for quite some time, so maybe he can comment if there are any finish issues?

I have no hum at home or at the church I play for. :hyper: But, I think it's just that the hum (if any) is going to be very very minimal.

I asked this same question to Kevin at Sadowsky about two weeks ago. He said they have never heard of an issue with leaving the appliques on the bass, but on the other hand they haven't tested it for extended periods of time (i.e. years).

These don't have sticky stuff on them to stick to the finish, right? I think that it's held on by static. If the bass had a nitro finish I would think that there would be a concern. I just wouldn't expose the back of your bass to direct sunlight or anything really hot.

It's an Oly White RV-5 without VTC that I picked up at Thomann and which sat there for a couple of years I guess (M2079).

Woke up one day figuring that I my life made no sense if I couldn't get my hands on a JJ5 before July (when my NYC is due)

It's great, I play Classic Rock and I didn't miss the VTC one bit. It's much more balanced than my M5-24 (obviously) and I believe the alder rosewood combo does work well without VTC.

I have left the Static Cling protectors on since I built my basses. No issues as of yet.
Actually was a good thing that when Randy Jackson Borrowed my bass, the Cling protected it from his belt buckle.

I have seen alot of older basses come through the shop with the cling still on, and have never seen any "sinking" into the finish issues.
You will get a build up of "dirt" around the Cling, but when you remove it to clean your bass, it will come right off.

Yeah...We don't put the cling protector on any nitro finishes. They will sink into the finish over time, since the finish is softer/thinner.

Actually.....We put the cling protectors on ourselves, when the basses are built. Wilkins does not.

Rob I am not positive but I think my Will Lee bass is a black nitro finish??? I've decided to take it off the bass.
