Traitor. Any chance you'll grace us with a head-to-head comparison between the Sadowsky and the Series? I'm getting leery of bringing the Alembics to grubby bar gigs and thinking of making the Sadowsky leap.

Thought I'd put this here because you guys are in the know re: Sadowskys.
What's the deal with Metros and the maple fingerboards? Is it just me or do the vast majority of Metros coming in these days have maple boards? I've been on the mailing list for about 8 weeks (ever since I first played a Sad and started getting bad GAS). Since then, it seems to me that almost all the Metros coming up on the site have maple boards.

NYC section seems to have quite a few rosewood boards available.

In addition, it seems to me that the majority (maybe 70/30) of the Metros coming up for sale here on TB are maple boards.

Man, this new-stock mail is killing me every time. Even if I had the cash for a new Sad I wouldn't get one just because I know next month I'll see something new on the site that'll make me sorry for not waiting a little longer.

There a bunch of theads on this and some have soundclips. I don't remember which ones. I don't have any clips of my own playing with the Modern 4 for upload.
I can say the Sadowsky soapbars are hi fi and (no pun intended) Modern sounding. Instead of the classic J bass tones, think of tones along the lines ofo--but not exactly like--Mark King on MR. PINK; Alain Caron on JACK CANNON, D-CODE or TROUBLE; Flea on AEROPLANE, etc.
I do have a clip of Ed Friedland playing a Metro Modern 5 (not a 4) but I think the preamp's treble is really boosted on the slap section. Keep that in mind when you listen:

I own 3 EBMM Stingrays (a 5er and two 4 strings), 2 vintage Fenders and a couple of Sadowskys.
I have been gigging, rehearsing, recording, extensively A/B-ing and practicing with all 10 of my basses lately as I am trying to consolidate my collection and sell a few basses.
I played a few tunes at rehearsal this week with my EBMM SR4 30th Anniversary, then my 1992 NYC Jazz.... the Sadowsky blew away the SR. I gigged last night and started with my 1997 MIA Precision '62 Reissue, then my Metro MS5... the Sadowsky killed.
I am almost p!$$ed off that the Sadowskys are so good as the $10k+ worth of EBMM and Fender basses I have are not being played.
I have flip flopped back and forth between Fender, EBMM, Lakland, Gibson and Sadowsky during the last 2 years and after extensive testing, I really think there is no better bass available than Sadowsky. I have also played Ritters, Pensas, Roscoes.. and I just haven't played basses that cut so well.
Am I nuts?
I even have a Sadowsky outboard preamp but other basses still don't cut like my Sadowskys.
I am completely sold (for now anyways)

Are those metro or nyc? I am looking into a 5 string sadowsky jazz or m5-24.
I am contemplating joining the club! 
Keep in mind, I am typically an Ash/Maple guy, and I have two Alder/Rosewood basses on order from other makers. (Nordy and Alleva Copollo) It seems that most of the Sadowsky's that I've heard and loved are typically Ash/Maple.
I am leaning toward the Transblack for it's more traditional vibe and understated elegance. What a classy bass! But that '59 burst is stunning too. How different does Braz Rosewood sound compared to a maple FB on a swamp ash body? (Both basses under consideration have Swamp Ash bodies)
Would the Brazillian Rosewood with Swamp Ash still give me a kick a** slap tone? I play 85% fingerstyle, but use a lot of slap/pop accents and we do a few funk tunes each gig.
So ... Which of the following two Sadowsky's would you guys recommend?

The 5er is a Metro and the 4 string is the NYC.
The Metro actually sounds better than the NYC IMO. I have done a bunch of gigs with both and the Metro is beefier and cuts better. It is my go to bass right now. The VTC is one of the reasons I like the Metro more (no VTC in the NYC).
With the current high quality of the Metros I have seen lately, I highly doubt I would be able to justify spending the extra $$$ for a new NYC. I am going to buy a P/J 5 when they are released and it is going to be a Metro.
Yea i have played both at the sadowsky shop and sound wise they are pretty hard to tell apart but some of the features you can get on an nyc are just gorgeous. Id like to own a ash bod/high grade quilt maple top and a birdseye maple board. That would be gorgeous but its a lot more money than just getting a metro.
