Club Sadowsky!!!

Sadowsky brown-nose post of the day.....:smug:

I own 3 EBMM Stingrays (a 5er and two 4 strings), 2 vintage Fenders and a couple of Sadowskys.

I have been gigging, rehearsing, recording, extensively A/B-ing and practicing with all 10 of my basses lately as I am trying to consolidate my collection and sell a few basses.

I played a few tunes at rehearsal this week with my EBMM SR4 30th Anniversary, then my 1992 NYC Jazz.... the Sadowsky blew away the SR. I gigged last night and started with my 1997 MIA Precision '62 Reissue, then my Metro MS5... the Sadowsky killed.

I am almost p!$$ed off that the Sadowskys are so good as the $10k+ worth of EBMM and Fender basses I have are not being played.:crying:

I have flip flopped back and forth between Fender, EBMM, Lakland, Gibson and Sadowsky during the last 2 years and after extensive testing, I really think there is no better bass available than Sadowsky. I have also played Ritters, Pensas, Roscoes.. and I just haven't played basses that cut so well.

Am I nuts?

I even have a Sadowsky outboard preamp but other basses still don't cut like my Sadowskys.

I am completely sold (for now anyways;))

Oh, here are my babies.....

WOW!!

Beauties to say the least.

Club Bass in Toronto has the very same Metro MS5. I've been looking at it for day's now and it seems that I'd like a little more contrast than the all Maple look. But... on second thoughts, what your saying about the quality and tone of this beauty just might override the color issue.

When it comes to Alembics and Sadowskys, they're both fabulous basses. No question they are different animals. But that is the spice of life and I feel blessed to enjoy the music I can make out of each. One thing I like to do however with the Sadowsky is tone shape it with an Alembic SF-2 Superfilter. It really gives the best of both worlds.

Coelho,

Your band followed Tony Levin's band?

You followed Tony Levin?

Not HIS band... Tony and Aaron Comess played with this singer called Swati, and my band played after them...

It was funny, in the backstage he asked: "So, you play in the band going up now?"

When I got up there, his "funky fingers" were on top of the bass cab. I asked the sound guy to please return to him. :)

Was really an honor. He probably plays in more albums in a year than I play live!!! :)

Anybody else? Transblack Ash/Maple or Quilt Maple/Brazi Rosewood. I think I've already decided that Ash/Maple is my thing, as is the somewhat more traditional control plate/pickguard vibe. But I welcome feedback. Thanks!
Gary
I am contemplating joining the club! :help: Keep in mind, I am typically an Ash/Maple guy, and I have two Alder/Rosewood basses on order from other makers. (Nordy and Alleva Copollo) It seems that most of the Sadowsky's that I've heard and loved are typically Ash/Maple.

I am leaning toward the Transblack for it's more traditional vibe and understated elegance. What a classy bass! But that '59 burst is stunning too. How different does Braz Rosewood sound compared to a maple FB on a swamp ash body? (Both basses under consideration have Swamp Ash bodies)

Would the Brazillian Rosewood with Swamp Ash still give me a kick a** slap tone? I play 85% fingerstyle, but use a lot of slap/pop accents and we do a few funk tunes each gig.

So ... Which of the following two Sadowsky's would you guys recommend?

Transblack / Quilt Maple

Or ...

'59 Burst Quilt Maple/Brazillian Rosewood:

I would have s**t my pants. Tony Levin is my all time hero!

I'd go with the transblack. Color in nicer, I prefer maple board, like the shorter string-body distance due to the PG.
Make a decision before they vanish in the air while you day-dream

I feel the same. I've got an identical MS5 to yours and I've decided it's "the one". I've owned Roscoe, MTD's, EBMM, Lakland and spent considerable live playing time with other high end basses. Nothing works like the Sadowsky in the mix. I'm done searching. I'm sticking with JUST the Sadowsky because everything else would get left at home anyway.

I'm just recently getting into NYC basses and honestly wasn't aware of how appealing some of the exotic-topped basses are.....i checked out the website this evening and there are some great looking basses on there..........I am thinking of getting a fretless 5 built, but don't know much about the different tones in all of the models (I know nothing of the Modern's tone.........is it most suitable for fretless, IYO?).........do the tops make a tonal difference at all in Sadowsky basses?..........are the tops very expensive........?

My modern 5 black bass sounds slightly different from my Standard 5 Bora Blue Burst.

I say if you have the Vintage Tone Control, you can't go wrong. The preamp in the basses is really nice IMO.

My Modern 5 does not have the VTC and my blue standard does.
