Club Sadowsky!!!

played outdoors last night at this charity biker event large production mobile stage and the front of house eng. comes back stage after the first set and says man that bass bass rig sounds awesome, i mean this dude is just popping off about how good the bass tone is keep that rig don't touch anything. I say its not the rig its the Sadowsky bass. I was sending him a large dose of Sadowsky ash/maple with single coils goodness through a countryman DI. I told him again i have thank Roger Sadowsky.

Well, I played the Sadowsky in worship yesterday, which I will be doing for a while since it is my only bass!!!!

My initial overall impressions are very favorable. I LOVE the tone, and felt like I had a nice place in the mix. Although, I need to do a bit more experimenting as well as get some advice from my fellow club members on how to fine tune that Sadowsky "presence."

Further, playing with the live band has finalized my opinion on the reverse P configuration. I have to say that really DO NOT like it. The bass already has a beautiful, naturally warm resonance to it played unamplified, but the PU placement (at least I hope that is the cause ::eek: ) cuts the roundness and even a bit of bottom end off the E and B strings. When you dial that back in with the bass boost, it makes the top strings boomy. I can't wait for my new PG to get here so I can swap them out.

I am also considering replacing the P pickup with the Nordstrand that Roger is using now. But, I am holding out hope that the traditional placement will make things right.

Lastly, does anyone have any experience or opinion about retrofitting a spoke wheel truss nut to an existing neck? My preliminary thoughts are that it is not possible, but then I looked at them at StewMac, and now I am thinking maybe? My Sadowsky has the old-school Fender cross style nut. Not even a hex key style.

I've done this on a Jazz bass, and it was pretty simple, but I'd suggest you call the shop and ask about that one. My main concern is It will likely require some routing/refinishing, and of course that should also change the pickguard, which it may be too late for now.

Our buddy Burk had this done to his Sadowsky at the shop.... not a big deal from what I remember. +1 He should just contact Kevin and get a price. Not sure if I would bother, since I adjust my Sadowsky neck every other year or so:D, but I do like that spoke wheel thing a LOT.

As you know, that is one of Ken's rules that should be required by law for all luthiers...

- spoke and wheel truss rod adjuster knob
- Separate easy access battery compartment
- Quick release bridge
- Preamp bypass if the bass is active
- Passive tone knob

:D Roger gets an A-

It is clear that this bass is not you and you should just sell it to me.:hiding:. I have a sadowsky pre in my Nordy VJ5 and it is reverse P/J, but it is alder RW. THe tone is really growing on me. Do you typically play over the bridge or neck pu?

If I decide to sell it, you'll be the first person I call!!! ;)

I play floating thumb, and further, I do tend to wander up and down the playing plane depending upon my tonal desires. I don't think I am 100 percent in the "the tone is in the fingers" camp, but I absolutely subscribe to the theory.

That said, my home base is just barely on the neck side of the bridge PU.

I am not down on this bass at all. It really is amazing. I keep one of my wife's old stethoscopes in my music room, and one of my very favorite things to do is to rubberband it to the bass body around the strap horn. This bass has the most amazing "tone" and balance of any I have ever owned, including my Q5s, which been widely accepted as the shizzle. But, that vibe isn't translating through the amp. And, based on a bit of observation, I am convinced that it is the reversed PUs that is the source of my discontent.

We'll see soon enough for sure!!

Sold the F-Bass. Out of that club....(nice club, great bass) and I'm IN on Sadowsky.......I get it I get it now. These basses ARE special.
need a number, and........wadda think? pickguard? no pickguard?

When I pulled the PG the grain on the ash made me just drop my screw driver....on the floor. I'm thinking NO PG !!!!! I'm a tort guy too. Feel free to chime in.

Also, anyone have a clever way of toning down the appearance of the screw holes with the PG off? Does Rodger make a clear PG? ( Sorry Roger, no D)

Okay....it's either mint or pearloid. Opinions?
