Roger I will give a nod to Ken here, I saw/heard one of his videos (on youtube?) demo'ing some cabs with his orange Sad, and that did it for me. I tried searching youtube for more sound clips of your basses and found very little posted by individually players, except for maybe 3 or 4 playing a MV5. Lots of 4 string basses though.

Thanks! I have a few clips up with various rigs. This one is my favorite (might or might not be the one you are talking about!)... I talk about the spec and rig for about a minute, and then the playing starts. This is a very good representation of the tone I get out of that ash/maple vintage through my primary rig

we have white tape here i use on my mixing consoles all the time.
i think it's a 3M product.

Yep I use that too.....but the blue is MUCH cheaper and works well for other things too. I use it to label many of my mic cables etc. At the end of a long night it's an easy way to identify them.

I'm planning on putting flats on one or both of my Sads. I'd be interested to hear how others like flats on their Sadowsky.

I know there are those who strongly feel that passive mode in these basses is really only for emergency/contingency use, but I've definitely made use of passive mode and enjoyed it a LOT. I've done this on my JJ basses, but where I personally think it's coolest is on my PJ5 when soloing the P pickup. At some point, I'm gonna' throw flats on that bass and see just exactly how Motown I can get it to sound in "passive P" mode.

+1 And there is something nice about never opening up the compartment with all the wires, etc. Again, minor deal/nitpick!

I agree, there is a certain beauty to that I actually take the neck off every time I change the battery and oogle at the neck pocket.

me too , i recently bought a shuttle9.0 head and my Sadowsky to me actually sounds better thru that head in passive mode , and I guess im one of the lucky ones , I have had my bass for over 10 years and have had no problem with the plastic battery box , no passive tone control either , she is a oldie but a goodie

Might a friction fitted and flanged cover with a thumbnail slot be an idea to pursue? To cover the entire compartment as is now done, not a separate battery box?

Easier and quicker access than several tiny screws. Just a thought.

That's what I use on both of mine, Sadowsky 45-105 flats, great strings. Amazing range of tone, thanks to the strings uniform high quality, and the VTC, IMHO.

I ended up with a set of Fender 9050s and slapped them on my RV4. It's a good wallop that brings to mind that line someone came up with about being hit in the chest with 500 pounds of chocolate.

I personally found the 9050's to be too high tension for me to enjoy playing them. They sounded fine though.
YMMV.

Sadowsky flats are quite nice.
I like the LaBella 760FL and DA Chromes pretty well, depending on what they're going on...

Those pop-up battery boxes are the worst... They always, always fail. I've repaired so many of those over time I don't even use them on basses that have them. I've retrofit a battery clip and some foam into the electronics cavity.

Luckily, none of the Sadowsky's I currently own have those.

I must admit, there has only been one failure in 11 yrs of fairly regular use - so no real complaints
