I am one that appreciates the look of a clean backside of a bass. One cover is all I think is necessary.

I use the Batt-o-meter and never have to worry too much. That thing is sweet!

I must admit, there has only been one failure in 11 yrs of fairly regular use - so no real complaints

I've never had a problem in many, many years. However, I have high quality gig bags and almost always schlepp my own bass. I am also not an idiot. These things all make a difference regarding the reliability of gear

I change batteries every 3 months regardless of if it needs it or not. That means openning it up 40 times over the course of ten years. I never leave the bass plugged in and in most cases NEVER open the preamp compartment if there is seperate battery access.

+1, I don't use the Batt-o-meter but when I check the batteries they always read almost full. I usually replace them twice a year and use them for tuners, kids toys,...

Well if you draw a stright line between Babylon and Detroit, the sadowsky shop is blocking me from harm. If Ken comes on the attack I will rely on Roger to throw his unused supply of battery compartments to fend Ken off

It should be noted I like the battery compartment so this would all be a ploy; once Roger left Ken and I would scurry around and pocket the unused battery compartments...

I'm planning on putting flats on one or both of my Sads. I'd be interested to hear how others like flats on their Sadowsky.

One of my Sadowskys is always strung with Sadowsky flats, usually my #1.

Does anyone here have an opinion (boy that's a loaded question... Ahem) about the NYC model necks vs. the Metro necks.

Do the graphite strips in the NYC model allow you to dial in and maintain a more precise relief and/or keep the neck more stable when playing and during humidity changes?

Is there really any difference noticed?

My first Sadowsky was an MV4, It arrived from Germany to Spain on a cold and snowy February day. It was delivered to me and went straight to band practice. I think to recall that it was almost in tune, setup was right on. For the time I owned that bass (around 8 months, until I got my first NYC) I never needed to tweak the neck.

I don't know if graphite rods help to keep the neck relief, but I don't think that's the reason to use them, especially with the quality of the woods that Roger uses.

I have two NYCs and two Metros at this point, all with maple/maple necks. Let me just say this... I haven't noticed anything different between the two that I could attribute to the rods. About the only difference I can feel is it feels like the finish used on the necks is slightly different. The stuff on the NYC necks seems a little darker in color and maybe slightly softer. I think Roger likes that finish to "wear-in" and have "mojo" vs designing a finish to be more resistant to wear.

I am all but certain that the rods are installed to alter the resonant frequency of the neck and thus aid in preventing dead spots on the fingerboard.

I don't think there was ever any issues or concerns with stability. I am not even certain the rods actually make the neck any stiffer.

FWIW, I just bought a used PJ5 that pre-dates the use of the rods. The neck on that bass is amazing.

I sold my Lakland many moons ago after I got my first Sadowsky back in 2000. And I still have that bass as I've never played a bass like it.

I personally found the 9050's to be too high tension for me to enjoy playing them.

They're a little stiff. I don't really mind, once my fingers forget how the DRs feel on the other bass. Because of the tension the 9050s can be set up really low, which Roger's necks will allow.

Correct. It has nothing to do with feel or stability, but rather minimizing dead spots.

Is it possible to get that "classic" p-bass tone out of a hybrid PJ?
I own 2 J's and I am gassing for a P, a Fender would be cheaper but a Sadowsky would be better and way more versatile ;-) and since I can't try before I buy...

If you turn the 'J' pickup off with a PJ, you literally have a P.
