Club Sadowsky!!!

Played it tonight at rehearsal and very very pleased! The big factor to me was weight. Metro's tend to run on the heavier side and I am spoiled with my two NYC basses which are both under 8 lbs. Well this Metro is just under 8.5 lbs! Just what the doctor ordered!

It will take a little getting use to, the neck is a bit chunkier than my NYC basses. And it feels like a.....new bass! Yes, my 22 year old Sadowsky has me spoiled, that neck is well broken in! But in time, I predict this Metro will at home.

Thanks to the guys at Bass Central for giving me the heads up when this bass came in. I mean, it was only in their store a few days!

Excellent pickup Ken! Beautiful grain on that Ash....Give yourself a little bit to get used to the neck, they are a bit different than the older Sads. Still a great feel, though.
I know what you mean about Bass Central.... folks there were very cool to me a few months back, they really went that extra mile. Good Luck with her!

On an unrelated note, has anyone changed the string spacing on their fiver to 18mm? I just can't get used to the 19mm. I would love to even get to 17mm, but don't think that could be done without changing the neck.

Yes, I know I could contact Sadowsky and ask them. And yes I know the strings won't "properly" line up over the pole pieces of the pickups if I change the spacing. But I was wondering if any had any "real world" success doing this. I'd assume it would involve just swapping the bridge pieces?

you could get an 18mm bridge and it would work pretty well and not leave too much space on either outside edge of the b and g strings. the pickups should be a non issue as well. it might look a little funny but should sound fine. if you were going the other way and going wider on a set of pickups that were meant for 19mm spacing, youd have output dropoff, particularly on the b string.

i put a 17.5mm hipshot on fodera 5 and i played it like that for a while, but there was a good amount of space on either side of the outside strings. i ended up just having a jazz made with that narrow spacing in mind.

So I remember hearing rumors about Sadowsky NYC necks being manufactured by USACG, chambered bodies by Callowhill, finish by Wilkins, and soapbars by Seymour Duncan. Can anyone confirm any of this? If this is true, are they proprietary designs made only for Sadowsky by these companies? By the way, I'm a fellow Sadowsky owner and I'm not opposed to the idea of outsourcing, I'm just curious.

OK, so I know this is the Club Sadowsky thread but, I wanted to share a link on the Genz Benz website.
I recently got an endorsement with Genz Benz and they added me up on their artist page. Hey, there is
a little connection with Sadowsky since I'm holding my Standard 4! :D

Can someone tell me if the finish on the back of the neck on my new Metro is Nitro like used on the NYC basses. I want to take a bit of the sticky feel off the back. But I do not want to do anything until I know what the finish is. I understand a bit of 0000 steel wool or as Roger mentioned on the Sadowsky forum, lightly sand it with some 280 or 320 stearate sandpaper would do the trick....

Modern 24-5 question....

Everyone says the modern 24-5 is VERY aggressive in the mids, and has tons of growl.... But does it lack in the low end at all? (pre not boosted)

Also, a lot of clips I've seen/heard, people are using these for solo-ish grooves, and slapin' the crap out of them. Can this bass do "semi-polite", and be a good backbone bass? Rosewood board, VTC dialed down a bit?

I've got a line on a semi local NYC modern 24-5, and wondering if it will fit the bill for MOST of the stuff I do. (P/W, rock, reggae, pop, R&B, modern country, covers 50's- current. I'm not a slapper.

I know there are better basses for the job, but it's a semi local deal, it's amazing looking, and a great price....

I own a 24f and yes, it has very aggressive mids but I wouldn't say it lacks low end. It's the kind of tone that you might here on some smooth jazz stuff or the guy who plays on Emeril Live. I love the bass but I haven't given it any gig time. I don't think it fits in with the classic rock/blues bands I playing with right now.
