Club Sadowsky!!!

Jeff,

We do have a 18MM bridge available for 5 strings, but only for NYC orders. We do not sell replacement bridges.

Sorry,
Robert

Sigh... oh well. I guess I'll just have to order an NYC then. :bawl:

Or, I'll have to get my fingers working.

I played a Zon over the weekend that had 17mm spacing and it felt like butter. What's weird is I have big hands. The Zon didn't have the sound I was looking for, but I did dig the string spacing.

Regardless, thanks for your help Robert!

So, here is my new to me Sadowsky NYC Will Lee!!

Joey,

I remember that bass very well. Amazing top on that bass.
The thumbrest is made of ebony, the original owner wanted it added as he was use to the placement of a P pickup.

Hey Rob,
I havent opened it up yet. Were you the builder?

Vic,

His bass is a '59 Burst.

Robert
DOH! Of course you're right... I shoulda' noticed that especially after going to the page where it said so. I just did some A/B comparios trying to figure out why it looked kinda' that way to me and I think it's the tort guard, plus I think the burst is done a bit different on his. Anyway, I stand corrected. :)

Ever play a Roscoe? Those are 18mm, if you wanna' see what it feels like. Personally, I'm amazed at how noticeable even that much change is.

I say order the NYC/18mm and be happy. :)

Thanks.. Yeah my PJ5 is heavier than my other Sad too.. Wish it weren't but still it is a great bass... gets used all the time... and plays like butter. Just wondering cause mine is from about the same era.

I need to look up the exact weight but I can tell you that it's noticeably heavier then my other, newer Sadowskys. I ordered this one in 2001.

I have a Braz. board on my NYC PJ. Not sure what grade, but it seems nice. I can't get the grain to show at all in pics but it does look great in person:

Mostly it's a dark chocolatey brown, with a near-black grain. It may be darker than most due to previous owners oiling the board (no idea what they used), but it sure looks rich and delicious in person.

Since it's the only Sadowsky PJ I've played, I can't really comment on how it affects the sound. Looks KILLER in person though. And there's something (maybe just psychological) sumptuous about the supple oily feel of that fingerboard.

BTW, that's a really sweet WL, Joeykun!

Cool... I'll try a Roscoe before ordering an NYC just to check out the string spacing. It's amazing how much 1mm affects playability for me.

Maybe I should just get a "practice bass" with 22mm spacing and super-high action, so when I pick up my Sadowsky it'll feel I'm playing air. :D

MV5 #4168 will be staying with me.
It plays out amazingly. The D & G strings are as solid as the lower three, sonically.
The B string is unbelievably clean and clear.

So you had the same MV experience I did then? :) Wait until you hear it on tracks. IMHO, something in particular about the whole ash/maple/SC is just magic for a recorded bass sound.

I also brought my current favorite to the job, a Valenti alder/rw loaded with Sadowsky SC's and preamp. It's warm, aggressive and plays like a dream.
I only played it for long enough to confirm that the MV5 really is a bunch clearer and cleaner, at least to my ears, in that venue, with that bad.

I was playing thru a Mesa M9, and Low Down Sound 4x8.

The only time I preferred the Valenti last night-and it's a dang fine bass!- was for stuff where I wanted a darker, chocolaty-er tone. For whatever reason, that bass responds differently to shtting the VTC and sounds as at home there as it does anywhere else.
To me, the MV5 doesn't ring true with the VTC snapped that far shut. Might be cause of the SS rounds, but, I ain't takin' them off.

After GAS'n for a while for a Sadowsky with a maple fretboard, I finally pulled the trigger on this nice Metro that just came into Bass Central. The big plus.....only 8.5 lbs! Fairly light for a Metro. Should have it tomorrow! :hyper:

Well got my new Metro today via Bass Central! Nice to only have to wait 1 day!

Played it tonight at rehearsal and very very pleased! The big factor to me was weight. Metro's tend to run on the heavier side and I am spoiled with my two NYC basses which are both under 8 lbs. Well this Metro is just under 8.5 lbs! Just what the doctor ordered!

It will take a little getting use to, the neck is a bit chunkier than my NYC basses. And it feels like a.....new bass! Yes, my 22 year old Sadowsky has me spoiled, that neck is well broken in! But in time, I predict this Metro will at home.

Thanks to the guys at Bass Central for giving me the heads up when this bass came in. I mean, it was only in their store a few days!

What are the cap and pot values on each?
