This one made me a believer in Brazilian. The sound is smooth, warm but still defined. If you have the extra cash and it is that important to you..it is worth it.
I have a lot of experience with the Madagascar and Morado. The Madagascar is red in color, and has that bit of 'oily/woody' type feel like the Brazilian. I have never heard a Sadowsky with Brazilian, but would assume the tone is relatively similar... very warm.
The Morado boards (also called Pau Ferro... if I have that spelling correct) feel a lot and sound a bit like a maple board.... the wood is shiny (almost like a finished maple board), and they have more snap. I always recommend Morado boards to those who like the upper mid presence and snap of a maple board, but like the look of the RW type color.
Not sure about 'master grade' versus regular Brazilian, but tonally, I can't believe it would be worth the huge bucks... probably old stock versus the 'stump wood' or whatever that is available now.
Roger doesn't like Indian RW and doesn't use it. My feeling is the Indian sits between the Brazilian/Madagascar and Morado... a bit more airy ping on the top end, dark color, 'hard' feel... again more on the shiny side from the ones I've played used by other luthiers... just FYI and IMO.
All this stuff is very general, since there is so much variance across individual pieces of wood, and just based on the basses I've played.
Lookwise, the reddish Madagascar looks GREAT with the 'red tort' type guard... similar color.

My VF5 has that board/look, and it's wonderful. I also really like the sound and feel of that board... especially with a more 60's-ish spec J style bass (alder body, etc.)

Man, I just never get tired of looking at that 24 fret J5. I had to do an A/B with my Metro (hope that's not some kind of blasphemy
). Aside from the fact yours is a 3TS and mine's the '59 burst, you can definitely see the quarter-sawn FB in yours and the grain in the body is really straight, whereas mine's more sparse. Also, you have the tort guard... I'm pretty sure I'm gonna' get one, but it's still gonna' be several weeks before they get any in. Other than that, you can also see the vintage tint on your neck... nice.Only one question... did you stick with the stock HC pickups? Sorry if you already posted about it and I forgot.

Hey, I put those NJ5S pickups in my newer NYC JJ5 (#5249, figured top, chambered) and I definitely like those better than the (DiMarzio UJ based, I believe) original HC's. Definitely added more presence, which is what I wanted. Next step is to try some SC's, but that might be a while. I may want to just order some rather than swap around. 
Cool. So which of your Sadowsky basses gets the most play time?
Oh, and what is the serial number of your PJ? Maybe there's a Sadowsky site picture still up?

Actually, the one that's not pictured is my main gig bass right now. It's a Sonic Blue pj reverse 5 string with morado board. I've taken the 24fv along on gigs and have used it on a couple of sets but I'm still breaking it in. The one with the soapbars has gotten no gig time at all. I'm hoping that will change soon.
^ That. That bass just makes me twitch a little. (And I still love the white guard against the maple board.

Still undecided on the single coils. Had a great conversation with Roger his ownself. Confirmed that I do have the 500k volume pot, which is cool beans. Knowing me, and assuming they can keep some SC's in stock for more than three minutes

Yeah, I have to say I've definitely warmed up to it a lot more (not that I ever disliked it, of course). One thing I just noticed in A/B'ing the two visually, is, I've realized I kinda' like that the neck pickup is a lot more visible with the white guard. All I've got to say is, I'm not planning to get rid of the white guard even if I do put a tort on there....I still love the white guard against the maple board.

I had a truly amazing 24-fret 5, and as amazing as it was, it just never got to "core rotation" with me, so I had to flip it. The good news is, it funded #5249 for me, which gets LOTS more play time than it ever would have.
Here's a pic for reference... there's no stock pic, 'cause it was originally custom ordered...

That said, my Metro PJ5, tho not reversed, also gets played a lot. I like it significantly better than pretty much any other PJ 4 or 5 I've ever played... including a really nice NYC alder/brazilian model.

I got to spend sometime with the PJ last night after installing the new pickups.
I am very happy with part of the change. I do prefer the tone of the Nordstrand-built P pickup. It is a bit more articulate and has a slightly better mid presence. I just think th overall tone is more defined than with the other pickup.
But, I am having a problem with the Nordstrand-built bridge PU. It is an HC PU, but there is a noise in it that sounds like cycle hum. I have triple-checked every solder connection and even took it over to a friends house last night so he could look at it. He said the solder joints seem fine.
Here's the really odd thing. The hum becomes more or less pronounced depending on the position of the bass. Last night, I could turn 90 degrees in the room and it would almost disappear. But, if you rotated the bass as if it were lying flat, it would start again. I have never experienced anything like it.
If I can't figure it out, I think I may try the new P and the old HC bridge PU. They don't match very well cosmetically, but the hum is unacceptable. Which is unfortunate, because I do really like the way the PU sounds. I think it matches the P quite well.

Your 5249 has a beautiful figured top. Really nice bass.
The PJ reverse thing on my bass has been annoying me lately. I ordered it that way to be different but when I look at it, I feel like I'm looking at some kind of mirror image. I heard that I can rotate the pickups and just order another pickguard. I'm looking into that. Your metro pj is a beauty.
