I think this has more to do with your love for Quantums than it does any particular issues comparativley with J style basses. That would also explain why you liked the PJ better than the JJ, IMHO. Much more "modern" sounding, and a whole different kind of presence.

I actually gigged the bass once before the swap, and three times after. Definite marked improvement in mix presence. No doubt at all.

Cool. The RV's are quite different from the NYC alder/RW's, so that makes sense... Chef's bass is probably closer to my ash/maple nonrouted than to my routed, very lightweight NYC alder with true RW board.

Could be. I'd like to figure it out as I do want to try another Sadowsky some day. I love so many things about them. I don't think I would be adopting one as my main player any time soon, but I would like to have one if just for recording. Maybe a Metro PJ will show up at the same time I have a little money that's burning a whole in my pocket.

Yeah, that makes sense. I still wish I coulda' compared yours to mine just to see if it somehow sounded very different, but I doubt it. Prolly just personal prefs as we've kinda' said all along here.

Sure enough, one of my favorite color/wood combos comes up on the site and I just had to have this one. Beautiful top, Ash/Maple, 7.35 lbs.
And, the HC pups that work so well with the 4 bangers. I am also having them add the Hipshot D-Tuner as well! This will be a great companion
with my Red Standard 4. Family photos to follow once recieved!!!

Thanks! I will. Just got the tracking number!! One of the nice things about being close to the shop. One day delivery!!! :hyper:

Yeah, I played through every setting on the bass in a band situation. By far the best is the standard Will setting of 500K Wide. Adds that extra grind and harmonics pop right out! Worked well with the HC pups too!
