A lot of this can be addressed thru right hand technique.

Chasarms, I know in my case, playing a lot of DB makes my right hand technique a lot ''stronger" than can be ideal for electric.

I am certain you are correct. I know for a fact that I dig harder than I once did. And, I attribute it somewhat to gigging a lot more on the big bass in recent history.

But, given the option of bass swapping or woodshedding, I choose the former! :)

I think I know what you're talking about, and if so, it's funny, because I actually like that.

Given that, I would actually think EITHER a rosewood OR a morado board would suit you better than maple, so that should open up your choices somewhat, as well.

What commentary do you find alarming? The ash/maple aggressive cut is what gets me through the night... especially when the room sucks and I need that added edge to keep my fingerstyle tone from getting mushed into the mix.

My ash/maple NYC is the best bass I've ever played, no exceptions. I also have an alder/Braz. RW NYC PJ that's extremely nice and has a very different tonal profile, but if I could only keep one bass, it would be the ash/maple WL.

Different strokes for different folks.

Haha, no I really don't doubt how great of a bass I'm going to have, but my main bass I have been playing for the past 5 years is a 1966 fender jazz. I'm so used to this bass that I'm afraid the complete wood change will be too drastic. Then again one of the main reasons I opted for an ash/maple NYC is to have that "opposite" end of the tonal spectrum. To me it was kind of like acquiring the flavor of a 1970's fender jazz to complement my '66. Rest assured I'm still extremely excited.

Where are you getting it? If it's a store or from Roger, there's an eval period for concerns like this.

Very true! I wouldn't give up my ash/mapl Will Lee for the world - it is just a stunning instrument. In fact, all of my Sadowsky's have been ash/maple and I have been very happy.
