Anybody know what strings my Metro Alder/Mor PJ5 most likely shipped with?

Pretty much guaranteed SS Blues if it was since those were readily available. I think before that they were pretty much all SS Blacks.

I had the 45s on both of the NYCs I had before at one point. I like the tone, but they are a little stiff for my preferences. I was thinking about trying the 40s. The strings on the new Metro seem a little stiff for my taste as well.

The previous owner of the Modern strung it with DR Hi-beams. I like the tone, but it seems he only re-strung the E-G and left an older B on it. The B sounds mis-matched. I know it's not a Hi-beam because it's tapered.

I'd say if you don't really mind the gauge, but you want slinkier, just go with some HiBeams (or SunBeams if you want nickels).

I play 120-40 on my 5 stringer, found no significant tonal difference at all.

I use the Blue Label Nickels 40-125T on my UV70 and wouldn't have it any other way. To my ears, I don't lose tone and I love the looser feel. I am a big fan of lower tension strings as I like to dig in and control more with my touch.

They set up my MV4 with 040-100 blue ss on my request. Very nice
I have a bunch of Hi Beams (about 10 sets), so they will go on there when it is time to change.

I really like the Sadowsky strings though, and the setup was absolutely perfect.

I use 125-40 blue nickel as well, love it and I strung DR sunbeams 120-40 or Sadowsky Blue Nickel 125-40 depends on the availability of both string.

I have 130T-45 blue nickels on my bass...just ordered a new set as I think they're starting to get a little tired. Love the Sadowsky's.

On previous basses, I liked DR nickel Lo Riders. I find the Sadowsky nickels suit me just fine...suppose I should try the DRs on my Sadowsky at some point, but if I like what I've got going with Sadowsky strings for now. Plenty of time to experiment later on.

I'm working my ever-shrinking keister off this holiday season. I have plenty of prep work.

So tonight I decide I am going to do all my homework on the PJ. I gotta say, I scored a pretty nice bass!

I'm playing a ton right now, so I already have 8-10 hours or so in on the Modern,
And tonight makes 3-4 on the PJ.

I will say that all in, I'd take the modern, but this PJ plays really well. I was able to dial it in to my liking and it plays very well. tonally, it's "flatter" than the M. But it's very full and warm. It nails The P tone and has a great old-school vibe. I really enjoyed playing it tonight.

The neck doesn't have that silky feel like the older Sadowskys I've played, but I think that's gonna come with use. Right now, the whole bass has a bit of a "new and needs some working in" vibe to it. I haven't bought a new bass in years. It is a bit odd.

40-125T Blue SS.. I would recommend this set if you don't down tune to Bb but if you do forget about it! I really love the set though makes everything faster and easier..

I have the Sadowsky 40-125 Blue Nickels on my M5-24. I like them the best of any string I've tried on it. That said, the 45-130 Blue Steels that came on it sounded great also. I just prefer the lower tension and the smoother feel.

Also very happy that MikeBass was able to snag my Vintage 5 - it is a great bass. Really dug those single coils. So much so that I'm thinking of trying a set in my NYC 4.
