Always good to see a shot of that beauty, Andrew. I still can't get over the figuring in the fingerboard. Also sounds like you are really enjoying playing it. :bassist:

Good to know I'm not alone. I only have about another 2 or 3 months to go on mine. I didn't even get my first Sadowsky yet and I already can't wait to order up a second lol. Roger makes some addicting basses.

No, why do I keep on doing stupid things?

I went to bass central and tried out 24 fret 5 string with the soap bars... I loved it. It was everything I love about my ray, but in a beautiful smaller and lighter package (8.5 lbs, are you kidding me?).

The only thing I wish it did a little better was getting a mellower neck pup sound... I also tried a metro 5 string jazz and liked that a lot too, but don't think I want to drop the money for a jazz bass (I love the way they sound, but don't use the jazz bass sound enough to justify it).

I have a feeling I'll be joining this club soon enough though :( <--- my bank accounts face.

Hey, can you elaborate a bit on how the 24 fret 5 was like your Ray? I never really looked into the Sadowsky 24-5's cause I dont play 5ers, but now that they have the 24-4, I may have to check one out.

Hmmm well it's like the ray in it's sound. It's very clear and mid oriented. From my limited jazz experience, the sound is a lot of thick bass sound from the neck pickup with a more articulated sound from the bridge pickup that isn't quite as gutsy or round as the neck pickup. The Ray just gets a pretty even clean response that is more mid oriented (and you can pepper bass and treble to taste with the EQ). This is a lot harder to describe than I thought it would be... The jazz sound has a thick and buttery thing going out throughout the tonal spectrum... the ray has less of this, and I think it cuts through more because of it. The sadowsky modern had the same type of mid-oriented sound but with a little bit of that sadowsky sound (OMG the harmonics were amazing).

I probably didn't explain what you wanted, but it's so hard to describe tone.

Does anyone out there own a modern 524 and a stingray? I'm afraid that if I get the sadowsky my ray might collect dust :\.

I get what you're saying, thanks!. I really love my ray, but for some reason I always feel like I'm fighting with it in terms of feel, and even string balance (weak G)


I never really heard a Sadowsky Modern so I'm gonna have to youtube it, but if it does have that ballsy ray tone, I may have to add one to the GAS list! Thanks again man!
