Hey and cheers proud Sandberg-Owners !
I'm currently gasing for a Sandberg California. Sadly, I don't have the chance to try some out somewhere near me. So, I wanted to ask you for some general Info and stuff, that you may have experienced, when you where trying Sandbergs yourself. I'm just unsure about the following:
a) The tonal difference between the "classic" Pickups of a California TT and the Powerhumbuckers of a TM2 and ...
b) the Wood. Alder. Ash. Or really ... Bubinga ? You experienced significant sound characteristics ? Differencies, that where just because of the wood. (Those Bubinga-Chocobolo's look hot btw ... )

Hey all ya sandberg fans, I've been looking for a decent j or modern j style bass for a while now and I'm thinking of getting a berg ordered in. I'm thinking either a Panther TT with macassar top or a Cocobolo topped TM2 would do the business. I'm mostly a rock guy so I need something that can handle that end but also deliver when it comes to funk.. anyone have any recommendations on these two?

Yeah I think your prob on the money here, plus I do prefer a wider nut.. and like ya said the VM will get me some growl and a bit of spank too. Cheers for the advice, I think those wood finishes had me blinded lol
Pickups is one thing, I agree that a California VM or VT (P + MM and P + J respectively) would be good for rock + funk. I'd also consider the advantages of maple fingerboard if I were you, as it would give a slightly brighter sound, good for cutting through the mix in rock, and good for slappin' 
I removed the Delano pickups from my older VM and put in a Wizard P and a Häussel Alnico MM in white (which I aged to match).
I much prefer the alnico sound on the VM. The bridge pickup sounds more Stingray-ish and blends better with the P IMO.
I'd already swapped out the active circuit (which had no passive tone control) for a Glockenklang 2 band.

I'd never noticed it but it is a different design to my newer Sandberg J's.
The bass also doesn't have the logo on the body or a serial number on the back of the headstock (or anywhere else that I can see). I emailed Sandberg about it but had no reply. It came with Delanos and a Sandberg type preamp (with no passive tone control)
I'm absolutely certain that it's not a fake though

...don't know if it was mentioned here before, just noticed today that the sandberg's come with Schaller Strap Locks compatible strap hooks.
This is cool, so I can use the "hooks" that come with the Schaller locks on my Stingray and don't need to buy a second Schaller set to use my leather strap on both basses. (needless to say that I hardly ever play the Musicman now that I have my California TM

I really wanted to buy a 4 String The Bullet of Musik-Schmidt but didn't have the money, a real pitty. The pickup is insane and the price was great.
