Club Sandberg (part 2)

That balance was probably the first thing I noticed - Dingwall instruments kind of feel like they are one big string. One of my Dingwalls is de-tuned to A standard; it still maintains that feeling even with the slightly floppier string tension overall. It's something that isn't very noticeable to me on a 4-string, but it's completely different on a 5-string.

Agree. If I only needed 4 string tuned EADG I won’t need fanned frets.

I am actually looking at a Nighthawk Plus TM4 with Häussel pickups. Anyone know how these sound compare to the stock Sandberg pickups?

I have a TT4 with Häussel pick ups and one with Delano’s ( got some black labels to go in there at some point though) so no direct comparison but the Häussel‘s are a bit raunchy and not so polite. We need cuzzie to chime in here as he has tried them all!!

I should probably save the post I wrote on this, as I have replicated it a number of times, so........This is all preamp aside

Delano - hifi, not sterile, more modern sounding, great clarity, fine TI use with effects but you have to know what you want to do

Sandberg - I am pretty sure at some point there was a generational shift, but, more classic/vintage sounding, lower output, but just the right output to play with pre amps etc and not overload the front end like the G&L MFD pick ups do - very very good sounding, but I think their split coil is the weakest of the lot (dunno why, not as good as their jazz)

Sandberg black label - as above but with even more punch and zing, more of a modern nod and a real punch to the guts - especially good in with SL basses, as they need more oomph being lightweight - very very good pick ups

Haüssel-like the sandberg ones on steroids, huge balls and character and they also do a big pole version I have used in another bass - so much beef that Jon Snow, the TT which @DJ’65 has now solo’d on the neck is practically a P bass sound - very good pick ups, slightly harder to tame with pre-amps etc.

New shape, newer pick ups compared to my old shape MarloweDK for example. I think they sound a little different as they changed manufacturer, but we are splitting hairs really

Looks like CME isn't going to carry Sandberg anymore as they don't list the brand and have no new stock.
Where are you US players buying Sandberg?
Any brick and mortar stores carrying them?

Bass Central in Florida. They carry them and they know the ins and outs of ordering direct, which is recommended.

I ordered a custom built TM-5 from Dijkmann Muzik in the Netherlands. Good guy to work with.

I believe Bass Central is a US dealer.
