IANA tech, but IIRC the traditional passive tone control induces a resonant peak in the mids as you roll the highs off. So that would mean you didn't have that mid bump when it's fully open.

Ah, so, basically: Fully open would be sort-of “flat”, but due to the way the passive tone control works, it introduces the mid bump when closing it down. Which means, once you’ve used it closed for a while, and then open up again, it appears scooped (in comparison to what your ear got used to)?

My new (to me) Sandberg Booster, hanging out with some of its roommates. I bought it from a fellow TB'er, then didn't think I'd keep it (I even momentarily listed it for sale), then decided it's a keeper. I'm glad I did. It is a terrific instrument. Now I'm thinking about ordering a fretless Booster.
Nice, love the orangeburst. I have a green one; the Boosters are a bit of sleeper imo, they are super-functional, great tone & playability in a simple (in a good way) package. I'm also thinking of getting a fretless, though I'm kind of torn between the Booster imoand the TM4 for that.
I agree. Think the other Sandberg models are much more popular (and more expensive) because the customer base has a preference for Fender Shaped Objects. I'm amazed at what a great bass the Booster is, especially considering its price. And I've never been particulary enamored with FSO's. I think the pickup placement of the Booster, plus the 3-band eq makes it particularly well suited to fretless.
Both the Booster and the Ibanez P Roadstar are just under 9 lbs. For me, that's not too heavy, but it's also like "Yeah, this is a bass."

Quite a few of us have posted pictures and still don't have numbers. Seems you can't get a number even with pictures!
I am curious if anyone ever removes the pickguard on a VM5? I love the bass but that solid chunk of black plastic is ugly, in my opinion. The off-white is clean and then...bam! It’s not that it’s black but it’s just not interesting. Too much contrast. Not sure what I would do with the screw holes but I love the looks of my G&L much better. Or my Carvin.
