Question...I've been looking for something that will also produce a "hi-fi" tone (think Eden/SWR). Will this provide? I know there's an Eden pedal pre out there, but I don't think it's a particularly good product. I could be wrong about that of course. Anything else come to mind? I've tried Aguilar, Sansamp etc.

The VU2 is not hifi. I suppose it could be run clean and add the DG Harmonic Booster for that defined active bass sound

The Nordstrand Starlifter gets good reviews.

Personally, I really like the Quilter Interbass in vintage mode for a old school vibe and also for natural sounding dynamic valve break up. In full range mode it sounds more transparent.

Sounds nice! I think you'll be very happy. Are you going to order a custom direct from Sandberg?

There's a couple good videos on YouTube with good sound clips, but not much else to go by. I took a leap of faith when I ordered mine, no regrets at all.

When I first got the Sandberg I was a bit concerned that it has less tonal variety than I'm used to, but I also have 2 PJ basses so I pretty much have all my basses (ha) covered.

That Starlifter looks nice...clean and simple. But I think after reading/watching reviews, I'm going to grab a Darkglass Harmonic Booster preamp pedal. I don't need distortion/overdrive...just want some subtle gain and eq controls for a couple of passive basses and some enhanced tones for my TM4.

About to hit the buy button so if anyone objects, please speak now or...whatever. :)

For what it's worth, I just picked up a Starlifter to pair with my TM4 and am finding it a great fit. Like you I wanted a pre without distortion and the contour switch on the Starlifter sold it for me over other DIs. The build quality really stands out and overall sounds great. Just my 2cs

Hi folks, I currently own California TT5 passive and I absolutely love this bass. Sold my VS5 cause I never felt happy neither with stock Sandberg P pickup nor with Nordy NP5 I replaced the stock one with. Now I'm thinking of any other Sandberg bass which would sound nearly as organic as my TT5 but a bit more modern maybe? TM5 maybe? What do you think? Thanks.

Preamps are pretty fun and "relatively" inexpensive way to get different tones. Not as much fun as NBD, but I'm looking forward to NPD now. Starlifter is next on my list!

I contacted Sandberg and they told me to contact one of their USA dealers. I did. There is a deposit of 1/2 the price for them to move forward with the order and a 6-8 month wait. I think I'll wait and watch their dealers to see if something pops up I'm interested in.

FWIW I had a very good experience ordering my Sandberg in the US through MusicStoreLive.

Hello folks. I currently have two Sandbergs, a California II TT4 SL (34" - 6lbs.) and a California VM (32.5" - 8.4lbs.) I love the quality and feel of both basses but I prefer the weight and pu configuration of the SL and the scale length of the VM. So how do I get a California II TT4 SL with the medium scale. Sandburg's configurator doesn't offer this option. I know I can special order it but the 6-8 month wait kinda puts me off. Any suggestions? P.S. I already tried swapping necks but the two are just enough different in the pocket area to make the job unfeasible without some serious woodwork on both basses.
