Club Sandberg (part 2)

Finally got my Marlowe set up all sorted and gigged on Sat night and no issues at all. All it needed was a very slight tweak on the truss and saddle heights all sorted now.
Bass sounded absolutely amazing with the 70's classic punk band. The tone sits somewhere between my P bass and my Geddy J basses. Its more rounded and warm than my Geddy but doesn't have the lows or boominess of the P bass. For me it sits very well in the mix. Balance was perfect and the neck is very easy to play.
All in all i'm really chuffed with it.

Pretty sure the VM Electra is discontinued, but I did just see one go on Reverb this past week. I thought about it…but I had just made a killer deal on an Electra VS. Just arrived yesterday so NBD and my application to the club are incoming as soon as I take some pictures.

It's not shown on their site with the configurator any longer.
Was the pickup in the same position as a SR?
BTW, I have the Electra P and J versions and they are both excellent players and about 8.5 lbs. each.

I had them on for about a year in a 70's Glam Rock covers band and as much as i really liked the feel and tone i couldn't quite get the right sound for what i was doing. I occasionally cover Rik bass sound and the flats dont quite give me that and went back to my nickel rounds.
If you think flats will fit in with your band sound then i'd definitely give them a go. I kept the strings and might put them on again at some point. Not sure to be honest.
They seemed to give me the studio sound on many of the older Glam songs where a P bass was used. I do recall reading somewhere that a lot of bass players from that era used flats in studio to reduce fret / string noise and rounds live.

I'm just looking for something different. Figured I'd ask before throwing them on my VM4. I'm going to do it.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I used the LaBella Low Tension ones and they felt much the same as my D'addario nickel rounds with regards the tension feel. That's just my own experience and others might have different viewpoints on it.
I hadn't used flats since early 80's on a fretless and flats have come a long way since then.

couple of q’s ….
1. has anybody taken the plunge, and moved the strap button on the back onto the side ? My ‘portly’ physique ensures the bass tips forward, I could try losing weight…..
2. What different pre-amps, if any, have people tried in their 48? I’ve had a John East before, in a Ray 34, love his stuff, I’m considering splashing out on a Uni-pre 4 …. I know, I’ve only just got the bass, but it’s nearly Xmas !!!
3. Can I have a # please?? ❤️❤️❤️

$0.02...

I experimented with different strings when I got my VM...various rounds and flats. Stopped searching at Chromes 100ga. VM + Chromes = full-body tone, big punch, and snarly. That's what I think is the intent behind the VM elecs array, with its reverse splitter/MM pickups. I don't miss having a coil tap for the MM pup, either. Sandberg matched up the 2-band perfectly, it's a well thought out package. I like Chromes on some other basses too, but they've never sounded better to me than they do on the VM.
