So in the end I decided to pull the trigger and buy a VM5 nighthawk

The whole rosewood/pau ferro thing just became a non-issue for me, not sure why I was ever bothered about it. This photo doesn't do the fretboard justice, it's a gorgeous piece of wood!

Can I get a # number please?

(Oh ps does anybody know what the factory strings might be?)

That's a beauty, grats. Does the VM Nighthawk version come with a coil tap for the bridge pickup? I know the standard VM does not, but to be honest I haven't really missed having a coil tap on mine.

Great looking pau board there, too. I love pau boards and would order a bass with it if the choice was there. That said, my VM has a fumed oak board which I'd never heard of before. I like it, feels and looks kinda like a cross between rosewood and wenge (another fave board wood).

I will be putting Schallers on my new California VM5 this weekend. All my straps have the Schaller strap locks on them, so just to make them compatible, that's what I always go with.

The stock strap buttons are compatible with Schaller strap locks. No need to change anything.

Wow! I wouldn't have even thought to try as the shape is more tapered. Thanks!

The bass balances perfectly, which I can only say one other bass manufacturer. It makes all the difference.

I'm not 100% sure tbh, I thought it might be Glockenlang but I could be wrong on that.

Hey Sandy Club...I have a stock Delano preamp in my TM4 and wanted to try something else. I'm looking for something with more active/hi-fi/modern/(insert favorite non-vintage tone here) pop and sizzle to it. Any suggestions for the right sound and something that's relatively easy to install? I actually have my TM4 listed on the TB Classifieds but am thinking that if I can goose the sound with the right pre I might be very happy keeping it. OTOH, the G&L I have listed is going either way.

The usual stock pre in a TM4 is Glockenklang built Sandberg. They're fairly modern sounding already but maybe Darkglass might be an alternative?

I changed my stock Glockenklang for a 3EQ Darkglass. Couldn't be happier

MarloweDK for the punk band is perfect. Depth with clarity. Had lots of positive comments about my bass tone.
VM4 for my Glam Rock covers band.
Seems i'm a Sandberg convert thru and thru.
Other basses just dont get used now at all.

I also play Stingray basses.
It looks like a TM allows for one of the coils of the humbucker to be switched off.
And you know my question!
Will a TM sounds like a TT (with one coil off), and will just the M pup sound like / similar to a Stingray?

I had a Lakland Skyline version of this set up and it didn't do either very well (for me).
