the most important things we consider would be pickup height (4mm from bottom of string on each side to reduce magnetic pull on strings) and intonation. of course you want to avoid a “backbow” as the strings will buzz against the lower frets, as well.”

Which bass? I'd like to see what you're looking at.

The one thing about matte finishes is that areas can become glossy with a little rubbing, making it difficult to get the matte back to look like the rest of the finish.

I love my burst finish, which I assume is matt since it’s not shiny like poly or even a polished oil rub. Doesn’t seem to be fragile in any way. I like that it doesn’t show finger prints!

This one came to my little studio today. Soon I will make a comparison video with Fender Deluxe Jazz 5. It should be interesting. Sound of solo neck pickup in passive mode is totally diferent than my Delano. First time now I can compare Delanos and Blacklabel. Very nice and interesting sound with new Elixir.
BTW, the bass is shockingly light!!! I had a feeling of carrying an empty Gig bag!

As long as the 1/4” is plugged in, the battery (power) circuit is on. When the volume pot is pulled up for passive mode, it’s only bypassing the audio circuit around the preamp. The power circuit is still engaged.

That active one is interesting but not my cup of tea (color-wise). Looks like you have a 3 band eq? Don't most of the active Sandberg preamps have just a two band eq? And I see no pickguard as well. I like that.

Don’t know that I ever answered this. I think most of the Sandberg preamps are two band, but the Glockenlang preamps in some of their upper line (like the VS4 I have listed for sale) are three band.

I hear no discerning lack of tone coming with the weight of the sandberg, sounds good

And 2.7kg....even among the SL this is a very light one (Super Super Light?) good pick!
