I contacted Sandberg. Here’s their reply:
“thank you for contacting us. while we have a factory setup that we ship out with, it’s not necessarily the “universally optimal setup” — we feel that is totally subjective to the player based on touch and style! our setup is sort of an “in-between” for most playing styles, but isn’t always perfect for everyone (some people have a very light touch and prefer the action extremely low, others have a very hard touch and prefer the opposite, both scenarios require different setups).
the most important things we consider would be pickup height (4mm from bottom of string on each side to reduce magnetic pull on strings) and intonation. of course you want to avoid a “backbow” as the strings will buzz against the lower frets, as well.”
