Don't know about these days, and I may be mistaken, but Glock pre's used to have pink/red color components. As I understand it, the default Sandberg preamps are designed/spec'd by Sandberg in collaboration with, and made by Glockenklang. Are they identical?...or just similar?
OTOH, I'd guess that if there is a difference between them, Sandberg would be willing to supply actual Glock preamps for a custom order. For an upcharge, no doubt.
Anyone know for sure? Curious minds 'n all.
I agree, I do think the fender has a slight edge but both are great. Could simply be the strings.
This is a good example of why I say Sandbergs dont sound like Fenders. I for one am glad they dont. I prefer the low B on the Sandberg andI can appreciate the extra clarity and feel of the neck. There are enough Fender clones available.

So I have a TM5 Super Light coming tomorrow. As always, I scour for youtube reviews and have been hearing some that I like and some that I just don't. It's making me kinda nervous and I'm wondering what replacement pickups and/or preamp combinations anyone has made to these for a more standard J-Bass type of tone. I may be overreacting, but I don't want too much glassy high end in my overall tone.
Any feedback and suggestions are appreciated!

Yes sure, just wondering about the natural glassy high end from the pickups themselves.
I’m using Ernie Ball cobalt flats and rounds at the moment. But you might want to try DR Sunbeams or Lowriders.

I am both a Jazz Bass player and a Sandberg player. (a FenderJ and two Sandbergs that are not J at all)
Why didn't you get a TT with two J type pups (did you buy used?) instead of the TM model.
Just asking, because the last thing I would get for a "more standard J-Bass type of tone"
is a bass with a MM humbucker in the bridge position!
Since the "standard" Jazz is a passive bass, the standard tone is a passive VVT, two single coil pup sound.
Active preamps have always been used to make a Jazz bass sound "better" (= not like a Jazz bass
)
A Jazz bass on steroids! And very often active preams have been used...

I actually bought it new, but they didn't have any TT5's in a color I wanted. I will spend some time with the TM5 and worst case if it's not what I want, I'll put it up for trade. I suppose I can tame the high end with the preamp as well. Just hoping it sits well in the band mix too.

If you like the feel and playability then you will just have to figure out what works for you sound-wise. First try working with the strings that it comes with, probably Sandberg strings. You might love it out of the box. The EQ on the bass will take some getting used to and the string/pickup night council impact that too.
My Sandberg Ken Taylor was very good with the strings it came with but I think needed on variation. The G was a 0.040 but that string sounded a little “sitar-ish” and a 0.045 G is better. The only problem is that I had to cannibalize the 45 from another 4 string set but may try medium gauge next time and hope that gauge sounds and plays as well.
The other device I gig with is a Fishman Platinum PRO Eq/DI box that has a full array of adjustments including compression. There is always something different that is required so the Fishman can be a big help.
