I love my tm 5, I’ve been surprised to notice more and more that most Sandbergs getting played seem to be VM’s. Never tried one! I love my TM5 tho, very versatile and it’s hard to make it sound bad or not fit!

I remember you having some second thoughts on your TM4. Did you flip it for a VM4?

I found the tuners a bit weird at first but the newer ones are great that you can adjust the tension and tighten them when they start to loosen a little but I can see that being maybe a problem down the road doing that so many times? Will they wear down eventually?

I have yet to adjust the not so great bridge with the saddles. I just keep the string height exactly the same as when I got the bass. I bought mine from those Florida bozos, Bass Central.

Has to be. These are lighter than ultra kites and hold tuning with my heavy hand and hard picking.

Yes, that was my original question. Has anyone tried the Cobalt flats on a Sandberg yet and how did they sound.
I use them on my Fender P and J basses but not the Sandberg yet (I just got it).

yes, I put cobalt flats on my VM5. I did go back to cobalt rounds though, as I have another P with flats. The cobalts worked out great.

Thank you - I have been a La Bella player for years and love them, but I have to order them online always. But I can go in the local GC and buy the Cobalt flats - they have them in stock and I do like the feel and sound.

I hope they last like the Labella's.

I made this thumb rest for my Sandberg Nighthawk +. I guess it will fit other TM4s as well.
It´s made to fit with the existing mounting hardware. So no drilling or other modifications are required.

Hello fellow Sandberg clubbers. A questions for VS5 owners. Has anyone tried tapewounds? And if so, which ones and how did you like them? I want to run flattish strings on mine but I've been struggling with the B string with conventional flats. From the 6th fret and down it doesn't really match the tone or clarity of every other note on the fretboard. I've adjusted everything possible, I think, yet still no dice. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone. I recently acquired a Sandberg California TT-5 hardcore relic from GC. There’s no serial number on the back of the headstock. I didn’t notice that when I picked it up at the store. It also has Bartolini pickups and preamp.

Wondering if this was stock package from Sandberg or if someone swapped out the original electronics? It sounds/ plays great. Just curious to track down the pedigree of the build. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Maybe yours is from that era, or maybe it could have been spec-ordered sans decal? I bet an email to Sandberg could shed some light on the elecs mystery, too.

Maybe yours is from that era, or maybe it could have been spec-ordered sans decal? I bet an email to Sandberg could shed some light on the elecs mystery, too.

Body shape and pickguard indicate a recent production, so the absence of a serial number is puzzling.

Hi, all. I will soon be joining your ranks as a Sandberg owner I have a California II VM4 Superlight inbound. Can anybody point me towards setup specs (neck relief and string heights)? I'm going to want to swap out the factory strings for my preferred GHS Pressurewounds straightaway, which will likely necessitate a setup. I can do it by feel, but I always like to start with factory specs if possible.

I contacted Sandberg. Here’s their reply:

“thank you for contacting us. while we have a factory setup that we ship out with, it’s not necessarily the “universally optimal setup” — we feel that is totally subjective to the player based on touch and style! our setup is sort of an “in-between” for most playing styles, but isn’t always perfect for everyone (some people have a very light touch and prefer the action extremely low, others have a very hard touch and prefer the opposite, both scenarios require different setups).

the most important things we consider would be pickup height (4mm from bottom of string on each side to reduce magnetic pull on strings) and intonation. of course you want to avoid a “backbow” as the strings will buzz against the lower frets, as well.”
