To me it's normal. It happened on all my Sandbergs. Even new ones. I guess they filed it on purpose.

I have two Sandberg basses. The grooves have been there from the beginning and I don't see them getting deeper. I might be mistaken, but I think they are part of the setup, just like a regular nut has to be filed to get a correct string height.
Anyway, what's not to like about a bass that comes right from the factory with not one, but several grooves built in?

Two questions:
1) Did Sandberg install the Gotoh bridge at the factory, or did you replace an original bridge with that one? If so, did you have to drill new holes for the screws?
2) How would you compare Häussel pups to Kloppmann pups? Why did you choose Kloppmann?

the gotoh bridge was installed at the factory. the holes for the screws are at different places. but that's just a minor thing....
they will always be hidden under the bridge, no one will ever see the modification
kloppmann are authentic fender vintage replacements. häussel has more individual sounds. I love kloppmann more than anything in passive JB type basses... so no question for me. Just in my TT4 fretless I prefer Fralin pickups cause the have a bit more deep mids and output
yes they do! they're making the string action slightly more even in this way. it's just a thing for the very first fret. but good to know. many bassists often think their new sandberg is used when they see it.
I recently swapped my surf green TM4 for this fantastic Umbo
The TM4 was getting little playing time as my other Sandbergs fitted my vintage tone requirements much better.
With new style Fender flatwounds on, this bass sounds and feels so vintage its unbelievable and the range of tones available (Jamerson, Macca, Jaco as well as normal P and J tones) have left me wanting another Umbo to string with roundwounds.

NBD - My first Sandberg. I am not familiar with Sandberg till two days ago. Got this Used. Tried it and there was a strong attraction and can't resist. Brought it to band practice 2 days ago. Think I'm in love.

@Justice4trance: you really scored a nice Basic 4 there, to me it looks like a little older model, around 2000 I'm guessing. The body is European Ash, you have a really nice maple fretboard on there. Could you make a better photo of the back of the headstock I can't see the stamp on there well, never seen a stamp like that before. All sandberg Basses are made in Germany except the new Electra models. The components of the basses are also made here in Germany.

My Sandberg doen't have that cool stamp only a 4digit number in a different place. So I guess the newer ones have that kind of longer serial stamped on the headstock? I know my Sandberg is made before 2011 because the screw to adjust intonation is under the strings.(Sorry for hugeass photo)

Your bass has the Sandberg pickups, similar to the Delanos but a bit muddier not as clear. I like the Sandberg Humbuckers better than the Delanos.

My Bullet Booster 5 finally arrived last week! It's incredible!
I upgraded to a swamp ash body (seriously light weight), a plain maple headstock, and 3-band eq. It sounds a little mellower and darker tonally than my Ken Taylor maybe, but I'd expect that with the soapbars. Still has plenty of snap and definition on the top end though. The neck is very familliar (Basic series and Bullet series effectively have the same necks), fast and comfortable. Gigged it for the first time on Saturday and it was superb.
Here it is, the pics don't really do it justice, but I'll try to get some more soon:
