EDIT I've spoken to the shop and they'll knock £50 ($80) off their selling price bringing it under £800 ($1280). Time to start being extra nice to the wife and get those chores done too!
Under £800? That's about €920! That's realy cheap for a PM4!
Here in the Netherlands and in Germany they start at about €1100.

Ah, that's a bullet or basic PM, not a California PM. Beautifull bass and still starts here at around €1000. So it's a good deal you have.

Ever since I saw the video for Ich Tu Dir Weh, by Rammstein, I've been getting really bad GAS pains for a Sandberg California PM relic.

I am thinking of buying a sandberg as well. I am not so sure which model to buy
I am between a bullet jm or a custom. I am not so sure how those delano x-tender's will sound in comparison to the Delano humbucker. plus the bullet has a PU split. Any opinions?

Also examples of Delano Humbuckers are around. Also check the Heussel pickups and the ones that Sandberg makes themself.
Sure you are comparing two very different models, the Custom is the really high end model from Sandberg. Not saying that the Bullet is bad or has less quality, but from the sound and sound possibilities a Custom is much further and has it's price. I like those Bullets a lot, I never played a JM but the Boosters are very nice and they have a great feel to them, the design is fantastic.

It shouldn't make much of a difference, at least i hope so

Really only 250 more? I thought was much higher, I remember before it was, how things change. Sorry for givving wrong information then.
(EDIT: One more thing came to my mind, I think when ordering a Custom you have to add to the price the rarewood top you want to the base price. They don't make them out out of full mahogany.)
Oh sure those Quadcoils would make much more sense. If you would get each one to be splittable and then send them threw a 3-Band EQ you would have a real sound machine.
From the shape of those Xtenders I guess that they make much more sense than usual Humbuckers, the magnetic field is much bigger. I just don't like the look of them, got too used to the classic rectangular pickups I guess.
Sandberg is very opened with customizing basses, pretty much anything is possible with them, I would say it is one of very few bass manufactories which desire any personal wishes without enormous up charge.
Please tell us more about the bass you desire to order and what your expectations are.

Yes it's around 250 including the rarewood price I emailed Thomann to ask the price difference if i decide to use the quadcoils insted of the normal x-tender's. I hope i will get a reply soon I will let you know once i get an update from them

Ok great, I bet it will be possible. Also try contact Session Music, before named Musik Schmidt. If one asks them they give decent discounts and they have a very close relation with Sandberg. Now will come out a new custom Sandberg bass designed only for Session Music: Invalid Link Removed

Definitely write them an email to, specially if thomann doesn't answer you or tells you something you don't like.

It has Quadcoils, so I'm sure you can get them on the Custom to. I couldn't find the price of the Supreme for you, sorry.

I'm undecided on getting a Basic, they sound like MM's right ? Not keen on that based on playing a Sterling Ray35 through a LMIII --> Berg AE112. Warwick's and the Terra sound great through that amp & cabinet. Therefore I think the MM sound is not for me.
I think the pickup's in the Basic and Terra could be the same. So as I like the Terra, could it be that the Basic would sound near the Terra if the pick up was in the same location as on the Terra (Yeah, sound the same nearly for e-a-d only) ?

Basic and Terra sounding the same, well. They do have the same pickup yes, and they can sound very similar that to. It depends all on the body wood, and remember the Terra has an extra thick neck (hard to notice if you play a warwick to, but yes) comparing to the other sandberg basses.
I would get another Terra and just string it EADG, I have mine tuned so. Well thats only me as I love Terrabasses and regret not having ordered one more when I had the chance. Or that beautiful Plasma Ice Terra with blue leds inside that I could have gotten for maybe 1400. Darn it, I would have had to decide on the spot as they brought it in for an exposition and were due to send it back the next day. The shop was closing so I couldn't even try it out but they told me it sounds great.
Tell me what sound you are looking for maybe I can help you out further. Or do you just like the Basic bass and want one of them. If you have a Terra a Stingray and Warwick perhaps a Basic PM? If you like the P bass sound.

Oh yes after posting I noticed that in Australia you live in the future, I was not sure if you still have sunday at all.
The string spacing is the same, they all use the same bridge as 4 strings. Of course like on you terra you can adjust the spacing to be further together or apart. On my Terra I have them as close as they would go together, 18 mm. I think the max is 22 mm or something around there, I never tried it.
But yes everything is the same on the 4 string basses.
Those Boosters are great, I bet you will like it. They got a very pretty 4 string Booster on the german ebay, it has a bunbinga top. But I guess shipping to australia would be a hassle. Best you order threw a dealer around there.
