As to your question Mentalpatient. The new broshure is not very descriptive as I see. The different woods used for the basses are more reliable to look at, these do vary. From what I have tried most basics were made out of Ash and the Bullets Alder, ash is more bright, alder smoother. The Pickups used on the Basics are from Sandberg on the Bullet JM are Delanos, these sound a little different more clear and versatile I dare to say. The Bullet booster has a nice singing/growling tone to it. For me the Basics sound more towards Music Man, Bullet not really. Best is to try them out and see for yourself, I guess it might be hard to find them all in Australia. Also searching youtube for videos would not be a bad idea, this store Musik-Schmidt (I think now they changed their name did put some test videos of different Sandbergs up, mostly in German language but well you don't need to understand much.

Anyone know what model this fiver is? I may make an offer on it, but I'm as clueless as the seller.

Oh, it's a 4-bolt, flatsawn maple neck, no lams. Body core is mahog. Delano pups.

Are the soap bars far enough apart on the booster to make a significant difference with the pickup balance control ?

Would a Bullet booster (soap bars) sound almost identical to a Bullet Booster JJ ? I guess JJ's have a certain sound, I don't know what that is.

The Umbo looks appetising. Though I am into the modern metal sound I think it may still do well.

Is it me or most of the california series basses all have Rosewood fingerboard...

After watching some Musik Schmidt videos on youtube, i think i would prefer a maple board on a P4 or PM4!!!

Any opinion on fingerboard wood here?

Although I love my California JJ4 with it's rosewood neck, Iwould love to complement it with a Maple fb California JM 4...or 5....or 6! LOL!

my PM5 is maple board, it was a slight custom order but that was only the finish not the wood.

they are not one piece maple necks just to make that clear :) they dont have fender style skunk stripes, just a (in my case) well matched maple board.

i prefer maple board P basses, i think its the finish layer that adds that extra bite ;)

and for the vid i prefer the rosewood one LOL just the bass overasll loks better IMO (i think its the blocks on the maple i dont like)

Hello! Sorry I get back to you soo late, was a bit busy lately now I will check back more often.

I can tell you I played a Umbo 5 string some weeks ago for the first time and it really is a amazing bass. If you don't mind only 22 frets. The electronics and pickups are very good, the variety of sounds is huge, also the positioning of the neck PU gives a very nice tone. The PUs are custom Häussel ones and very very high end.

Bullets are so smooth and hot basses haha. The soapbars are different towards the Js, more muddy and bassy I would say. I can't really describe details as I don't own anything with soaps on them. But lets try hear the difference!

Ok might not be the best basses for compare because they are quite different. But I didn't find any Bullet JJ, the JJ from the video is passive.
Have a listen into the Umbo, which is all passive.

As for the PU placement yes they are enough apart on the Bullet Booster to have tonal difference.

Ok mate I hope I could help out a bit, if not tell me and I will investigate more for you! It is hard to find those Bullet JJs, I'd like to try one out to. All in all the Bullet model doesn't seem to be so popular, the most you see around are fretless boosters, and funnily enough all in brownburst. But I played quite some, also once I got hand of a custom Bullet with a humbucker, and sandblasted finish in black. It had a Badass II bridge, geez I was lousy enough not to buy it. Shortly after it was gone from the store and for sure never to be seen again, was a unique piece.

Oh if anybody here sees somewhere one of those rickenbacker copies of Sandberg please tell me! I want to know more about them badly.

That pickguard was definitely the right choice! Looks stunning.

I found something for any fellow Sandberg lover who desires to own a real rarity. It's not mine, also don't know the seller, I can just say it's a special bass from early Sandberg days.
