Loving this instrument, sound, feel, looks, really top quality instrument.

Very nice bass, congrats! It looks a quality instrument. I did try one out before I bought my JM4 Supreme (same colour scheme as yours) but although it sounded very good the JM4 had the sound I was looking for.

I hope you enjoy your new bass, I'm sure any other basses you may own will start to gather dust now! :D

I forgot which woods are used for those old Sandbergs. I bet somebody else on here can enlighten us.
If you want something more aggressive you may go for a Delano or something as different as a MEC. Or if some more money is spared a custom made Haussel pickup, Sandberg is offering them now as custom option. An alnico would give very much of a high end.
Well I'm no expert just throwing out ideas somebody else can help you for sure by far more. But contacting Mr Haussel wouldn't be a bad idea he is one of the most experienced custom pickup makers.

I guess that I should now get his #43 or my own number, as I am the owner of what used to be Kwesi's Sandberg Custom 5-String (based on the Bullet Special Model, but with strings-trough-body bridge, wooden pickup covers, etc.) Photos at the following link ....

Hey guys, even though im not a member of the club yet, (Probby soon going to be, cause i have ordered a Sandberg) i would i like to hear from you guys with the California series (idc. what model), how the bass handles tapping. Here im thinking fret buzz, generally the sound and also, im very interested in what strings you guys are using!

The Sandberg California JM4 is the best bass I've ever owned/played in the 30+ years I've been playing bass, it has an absolutely superb and extremely playable neck, with even volume across all strings. The factory set up was spot-on with a very low action and no fret buzzes whatsoever.

I wasn't too keen on the strings that came fitted with the bass and thought them to be a bit brittle and thin sounding. I now use D'Addario Nickels and am really pleased with them. I've recently put some Elites on and whilst they aren't too bad I will be putting D'Addario's back on at the next string fit.

I'm sure you'll love your new bass when you get it, don't forget to post some pics! :D

Sorry Manatopin I got a bit confused, the D'Addario's I use are EPS170 Prosteels and not the Nickel one's I mentioned, it is the Elites I have on now that are Nickels.

The guage is 45 to 100 but with strings it is all down to personal taste I'm afraid so you shouldn't really be taking much notice of what other people use, it is all subjective.

All I can say in my personal opinion is that the strings that come fitted as standard with the Sandbergs don't fully give them juistice and that I suggest you change them to your preferred brand of strings whatever they may be.

i still have the stock strings on my PM5 a year later, BUT i do have a set of status-graphite premium hot wires (45-135) ready and waiting :)

the stock strings feel ok, but i too feel that there is more tone to be had :)

i tap a little on my PM5, no undue buzzing what so ever, just serious quality tone :)

i would say if you are not sure on setting up your bass when it comes, just stick with the same gauge that is on there but use the strings you would normally use (if you dont like the stock ones)

I think they are shipped with GHS Strings (but I may be wrong) and on mine they were 45 to 105 gauge.

Initially I swapped mine with a part worn set of Rotosounds and even then there was a marked improvement.

and its home! My new Sandberg JM-4 Virgin white.
Its not the exact one as i planned to buy, but im going to change the pickguard to the tortoise, because i like the virgin white paint job, better than the creme q;

I gigged again with my sandberg PM 4 yesterday and I can only hardly recommend those basses to anyone :bassist:

Hey guys, so today my image of sandberg had a major setback.
Every since i have purchased the bass, the place where you input your jack stick, has been a little bit wobbly, and finally today, when i tried pushing my jackstick into the bass, the receiver (Or what its called), slided out of its thread, and to my astonishment, i found out that the female thread is made out OF PLASTIC?!. I am deeply amazed as how, they actually can manage to make basses with a plastic thread.
Well anyways, this thread looked almost worn, and some of the grooves of the thread is actually completely destroyed.
I'm returning the bass for repairs this Friday, and were just wondering if anybody ever have had this kind of problems with their sandberg?.

Hey there fellow Sandberg lovers!
Figured it's about time I join the club...
I own a Basic Ken Taylor 5 20th Anniversary model... That thing could handle anything you throw at it, except maybe a precision and thunderbird growl, but hey, I got a thunderbird to do that. Sounds awesome in both active and passive mode, especially the neck pickup - so deep that you need to put a life jacket on before you roll the bass knob up or you might drown.
Been jamming on that baby for almost a year now, set up with a high C string (loving them chords), but thinking of experimenting with it by putting low B and E flatwounds, and keeping the rest roundwounds (I started a thread on that matter in the Strings section earlier, which you can view here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=696416 )

Anyone know the difference in sound between Basic, Basic JM, Bullet JM , Bullet Booster ?

The brief descrripions in the brochure are :

Basic - No Holds Barred Rock Bass
Bullet JM - Anything from growl to very transparent sounds
Bullet Booster - The ideal tool to rock out

How would the Basic with it's humbucker go against the Bullet Booster's 2 SoapBars ?
