Having decided to purchase an AI product, I'm not sure whether to go for the Coda or the Ten 2. I listened to the YouTube posting by AI which compares them, but it was hard for me to distinguish one from the other. My first consideration is that the amp should sound authentically acoustic, only louder. Any advice?

Double Bass Coda vs. Ten 2

I own both and the Ten2 is my main amp because I find that the two woofers simply move more air and can get louder. I use it with big bands, with louder jazz groups, as a stage monitor with production shows and for gigs that involve some doubling. The combination of the forward and down-firing speakers also seems to make the amp a bit more assertive. OTOH, the Coda is quite a bit lighter and I often use it for small group gigs where only a limited amount of amplifier assistance is appropriate. Playing house parties with a pianist, I've often hidden the Coda way under the grand piano, adding just enough volume to fatten up the sound of my bass and allow me to save some work on the pulling. You won't go wrong with either one.

As an AI user myself, I think the Ten2 is the best bang for the buck of the two.
If you wanted something smaller/lighter/even more portable, you can always purchase the AI 1x10 speaker cab with the cabrio dock and you've got a Coda.

Just my opinions here, but ...
The biggest difference is the schlep factor, not the sound.
The Ten2 exists, I think, primarily because people wanted the AI clear, uncolored sound but they wanted louder, and that's what the Ten2 does.
The more "up front" sound of the Ten2 is mostly in how it sounds close up, which means how it sounds to the player. If you go out in the room you're playing in, and you adjust a Contra/Coda to be just as loud as a Ten2, I'm not sure anyone could tell them apart.
If you can only own one, I'd go for the Ten2 just because it gives you more flexibility, but if the schlep factor is important to you and you don't need the extra umph, the smaller model might be all you need.
