coke vs. pop or soda

^^What about 'I wouldn't mind some of your pop?' ;)

Over here, it's coke for a coke, fanta for fanta, sprite for sprite, pepsi for pepsi etc etc. Occasionally people will say 'Fizzy drinks'. Heh.

They tried Dr.Pepper over here a few years ago, then it just kinda disapeared :( I liked it =/

I can't stand the stuff but I'm the exception in Texas I think. It was invented right here in Waco (so was Big Red) and they actually have a Dr. Pepper museum.

When I was living in China one of my friends there was stoked when he found Dr. Pepper for sale at this little market that sold imported foods.

Did it come in a paper / cardboard container? I've seen where some beverages there did, I thought that was novel, and smart.

edit: logistics tell me carbonation would make that prohibitive...but I was just curious.

No, cans. I think it was just normal imported American DP.

Where I live, it's mixed. Half of the people say "coke" for everything, and the other half (which includes me) say soda.

I hear the following phrase at some resturants:

"What kind of coke would you like?"

It's just not correct. Although some drinks (like Sprite) are owned by coca-cola so maybe that counts, in a sort-of-but-not-really way.

I usually just say whatever the drink is. I guess I say "coke" or "vanilla coke" mostly because that's what I usually drink.

Ewwwwww..... :D

I serviced vending machines for a long time, and I always offered a free "soda" to the person who actually took time out of their day to say hi to me. Around Chicago it's mostly referred to as "pop" though.
