Double Bass College Auditions 2007

I'm glad you started a college audition thread this year. I enjoyed looking at the one last year.
I'm auditioning for the Orchestral Performance program at the Manhattan School of Music, Orin O'Brien's studio; the Graduate Performance Diploma program at Peabody where I would continue studying with John Hood; and the New World Symphony.

I auditioned for my college last year. Just some tips, never get discouraged. Keep telling yourself if you do your best you will get accepted.
the main problem I saw with other people's auditions was they were trying to be all flashy and do "tricks". Nobody is interested in seeing you try stuff you can't do and completely ruin the audition. Just think simple, believe me... they like simple clean well thought out performances... they hate flashy "look at me" kinda performances, especially when they fail.

I was going to audition around (I mite still do) but, I'm going to wait a year and be at lee University to get better before auditioning.

I am applying to a few ivies, rice, and washu this year. I do not need to do any live auditions but I have sent in recordings of my double bass playing. I would greatly appreciate it if you all could critique it (it can be found here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298252 or in the TB Double bass sampler forum)

A live audition is required to get accepted to Rice. Paul Ellison invites a handful of students for an audition based on the videos they send in.
I heading down to Austin for a U.T. audition at the end of January for their grad program both for classical and jazz studies. Anybody have any suggestions? How does the actual audition go? Etc. etc. I've been freaking out about this for the past few months.

I am applying to Rice as an academ (psychology major) so I won't be applying to the music school. I wish I could apply to both schools, but I can't. I am not going to focus on a performance concentration. Even if I do music it will probably be more composition/ academic focused with bass as my instrument.

I'm auditioning at Capitol University and West Texas A&M. Right now I'm planning on being a music ed major.

I studied with Nick before he moved to Canyon a while back. If you haven't had a lesson with him already, know that you'll be in good hands. Plus his studio should be very small, since nobody ever looks toward WTAMU. That's why Nick's there. He's trying to build the program back up to the level it was when David Murray was there so many years ago. I think you'll have a large part in the rebirth.
They have a very nice, brand new complex, too.

U of M duluth, UW Stout, U of M Twin Cities (really hoping for that) UW Parkside, Juilliard, U of M Bemidji, UW Mont Fort. Having tons of nightmares.
I am applying to Ithica, Hartt, Delaware, Western and Uconn. I was going to apply to Eastman, but it was too urban felt like someone would try and stab me or my bass on the walk across the street to the library. I've only been playing a few years now so if I get into Hartt I will be very much happy. I take lessons with the only bass teacher there, he is amazing but the bassists there think I'm a sure-in, as they say "I've already got my foot in the door" If anyone hasn't done so already, meet the bass teacher of the schools you apply to, you don't want to be stuck with some jerk-off teacher for 4 years.
