Double Bass College Auditions

From my experience, the audition cycle here at IU seems to go in waves. The year I went to IU, they took 7 undergrads and one grad student. The next year, only three undergrads and one grad student. That year we also had a ton of people leave and/or win jobs (Joe McFadden, Dave Milburn, Emmet and the like), and accordingly, they took a lot of students last year. I don't foresee too many openings this year, though. But that's not to say they won't take people - I just don't imagine more than a small handful.

Usually, all suites are played at original pitch except the 3rd (played in G) or sometimes the 6th (also played in G). However, whatever key you do play it in, what's most important is that you go into auditions comfortable with it and play it musically. Good luck.

I'm really surprised that you college hopefuls are playing these pieces now - I didn't learn those until my freshman/sophomore year! (I'm 2nd semester soph now) Best of luck to you.

Thank you sir! I will need lots of good luck and good wishes haha. The guy from Curtis just told me ill "get" to audition on either the 4th or 5th of march. Does anyone know how many spots they have at Curtis? Just kidding I'd rather not know...
