man, summer gets so busy! i'm definitely going to the Westword Showcase (playing twice during it!). i really want to go see Pavement!!

I auditioned for these guys last night! www.liebermonster.com

Good players, tight and locked in. No trumpet anymore (which is okay). I pretty much aced the audition, but they do have other players to check out. Regardless, I succeeded in my goal of playing as best I could and having fun despite only having one night to learn some of their music. :cool:

We'll see what happens!

On the subject of music shops...

Are there any secondhand (pawn) shops in the Denver area that are particularly known for music gear? I'm not normally into the used market, but I've gotten the itch to see what kind of stuff I can find out there. I've checked a couple shops here and there, but haven't been particularly impressed...

Hey Guys -

Fina Dupa will be at Quixote's on June 4th, next Friday. We will be on the outdoor stage (which used to be called Owlsley's), and Kickback will be on the indoor stage.

Kickback is a collaboration group including Bobby Vega, Mookie Seigal (from Ratdog), Ray White (who played with Zappa), and John Tipton. I haven't heard them, but the combination sounds interesting.

Fina Dupa's thing is original, harmonically sophisticated funk. Think Jamiroquai+Steely Dan+Maroon 5. We'll do two sets, starting about 9.

If you are into gear, I think I will take out my new Skjold 5 string that night. It's got a real cool burpy mid-forward tone that sits great in a mix.

The outdoor Quixote's stage is a really awesome place to catch live music in the warm months in Denver. The sound system is great, it's a treed courtyard with good seating, and there is quite a bit of (paid but ample) parking around. I am surprised it doesn't have a more pronounced reputation than it does.

As far as music stores go, I find that the Music Go Round in Littleton has a particularly cool inventory.

MGR Aurora is in the process of relocating to a larger space with more traffic, which bodes well for their growth.

My last 3 purchases have been a mix of MGR (a Peavey 810TX), Craigslist (a Peavey Classic 400), and Guitar Center Arvada (a used Peavey VB-2).

As far as the Guitar Centers go, the one in Arvada was managed by a bassist (Francisco) for a long time, and he seemed to be a little more creative and selective about what he stocked. AFAIK, he's moved on, but there seems to be a bit of a lingering legacy.

Definitely down for a GTG -- I'll bring my Dingwalls...

Drum City Guitarland is a cool shop if you're into metal-ish basses. They have a lot of Schecter/ESP/Dean. You can actually view most of their inventory online at www.drumcityguitarland.com. Cool guys over there too & will treat you well.

I really really wish Wildwood Guitars in Louisville would start selling basses. That shop has the most awesome collection of guitars on the Front Range. I do a lot of my service through Robb's Music in Boulder. They're great there too and the guitar and amp tech are awesome. They have mostly Spector/Ibanez/Fender and Fender/Eden/Roland for gear. Some Ampeg too, but not a lot.

Hey guy's, just want to see if any the locals here are looking for a Modulus VJ (sunburst with Bart/Bart system) or a Suhr Jazz bass (trans red Ash/maple, passive setup before I consider posting them here. There is an F-bass I want badly and have to let one of these go to get it.

You must have been the cat with the Avatar auditioning before me. Good thing the trumpet player isn't around anymore, if you listen to the recordings on the website he was out of tune about 98% of the time.

Sounds great Bijoux, I can only imagine how much you get pushed playing in a trio without a chordal instrument to back your solos. Your solos clearly outline the changes just the right amount. Great music. Wish you were stationed in Boulder so I could study with you. Art Lande is keepin me busy though.

You must've been the cat auditioning after me with the pair of Aggie 1x12s? lol Yeah, good thing about the trumpet... I wasn't impressed. lol I thought the drummer in the closet was pretty entertaining, though. hehehe

So, are you the guy that got the job? The return phone call I got puzzled me a bit. He kept going about my playing and how we locked in, how good my audition was, etc etc... right before telling me it came down to two players and that they thought the other guy was a better fit. :hmm: (I was bummed!)

Like I said though, I succeeded in my goal of nailing the audition, so if you ARE the guy that got it, congrats to you! Funk on, brother! :bassist:

It's amazing how easy it is to win auditions when you make out with the guitar player.:rolleyes:
