US: West Colorado Club

I spent a couple of years up in Anchorage. Drove back to Haines and took the ferry down to Washington but did that with a complete set of studded tires. Still ended up driving my MR-2 off the road and down a ravine.

Welcome to Colorado, even if it's only temporary!

Hey, I appreciate it. Alaska's a really great place, but I'm starting to get bored with the limited city life available to someone who can't do the bar thing yet. (Other than gigging - funny how that works.)

I have less than three weeks until I can change my location to Golden! Needless to say, I'm pumped. :bassist:

I'll keep lurking this thread to find out about where the good gigs are. If anyone has any Colorado tips/tricks, shoot me a PM!

How was the UMS? Any pics?

I had a good time, despite having to play with a broken foot on chairs and stools and narcotics. Both of my bands, Bad Luck City and Ross Etherton and the Chariots of Judah made the Backbeat "travelogue" by Tom Murphy, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Bad Luck City has a couple of crowd-generated videos that have appeared on the YouTube:

With BLC, I was using my new-ish Line 6 Studio 110, which actually worked out fairly well with the PA at Hi-Dive. I'm also pleased with my '51 RI Precision, which performed admirably--makes me think that Leo might have got it right the first time.

Take it easy, y'all,

UMS was freakin HOT! We played on the groove stage (2nd main stage) at 515 on Saturday and there were maybe 50 people standing around watching and trying to find the little shade there was. I thought that maybe we just sucked that day or didn't promote it good enough, but there wasn't a very big crowd for any of the outdoor stages.100 degree weather on a blacktop parking lot is apparently not a good idea! I was going to see bands I've never heard of before just because they were in the nice AC!

I'll see if my band mates have any pictures and I'll post them up here.

BTW, is anyone going to, or playing, warped tour this year? There's a chance we could be playing it and I've never been before. I hear its pretty cool though.

Yea, my friend's band played the exact same set time on the groove stage on Friday. There were only 30-50 people in the whole parking lot. Just wayyyy too hot.

I was really concerned about our set time since we went on at midnight at the irish rover. There were a bunch of other bigger bands playing the same slot. Turns out it was PERFECT. It was seriously wall to wall people in that place. They were all drunk and stoked to dance/sing along. Our first UMS experience was definitely a good one.

Also to the one wondering about how to get "in" with the Denver scene: It really is a mixture of building the right relationships and having a marketable product. I know that sounds generic, but that's pretty much it.

Our next gig is on Aug. 4th at Dry Dock in Aurora. A few of us have been frequenting this place for years and years, so we are really stoked to play it. Stop on by if you feel so inclined! We go on around 7 and will be jamming until 10ish. No cover and good beers. Here's a link to our music:

Heck ya it can count. Pick your own number. We could always change the name to the Rocky Mountain club. We just won't let anybody in from CA or TX. I'm just glad I moved to CO before they started dissing on people from IL...

Plus there's only like 12 bass players in the whole state of Wyoming, anyway... Not like we'll be opening the flood gates. :D

Hey anyone here have a 412 or 810 cabinet they want to get rid of? Staying local and not shipping is proving to be a pain.

I have a super heavy duty Ampeg 410.
Love how it sounds, but it's beast! 128 lbs!
But I have to say, it does get the job done. I've played Red Rocks, Bluebird, Ogden, Boulder theater, Mile High Fest, and many more outdoor concerts, and this thing totally rocks.
I also have kept in very, very good condition.
check it out.

Ooooh, 4 ohms too. I could put a set of casters on it and be set. The only thing is getting up to denver lol. My truck would pull out a gun and shoot itself by the time I got to castle rock. If I head up there though I might send you a pm to see if you still have it.

I just relocated to the Denver area... Anybody got any suggestions on good music stores (both in general and bass specific)

Thanks in advance guys... Looking forward to a GTG sometime!

-Music Gear Guys on s broadway gets some cool used stuff, also has tons of pedals
-Guitar X is great and local, though they no longer have a shop. Phone calls and email
-Drum City Guitarland is alright, lots of custom shop schecter stuff, and cool custom orders
-There are a few music-go-rounds in the area
-There is music pawn on broadway, a few blocks south of Colfax, that sometimes gets some cool stuff
-Musicians Superstore in Westminster (a little north of the arvada guitar center) sometimes gets some cool stuff in
... and three guitar centers

...and a little gig spam for Saturday, July 29th
My band, Cult of the Lost Cause, is playing the Larimer Lounge tomorrow night at 10pm w/
