Thanks to all of you who attended the Rocky Mountain Bass Slam. A great day of bass, for a worthy cause, and some lucky attendees won an MTD Kingston Saratoga bass and a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 amp.

All the performers were great! I had a blast, and the highlight of my day was getting to meet Chuck Rainey. As you may know, he suffered a stroke last year, and is not completely back in shape for playing. He's walking with a cane, but his mind is fully intact and he's doing well. I had a great conversation with him, and am extremely happy his recovery is going well. Keep sending the good vibes to Chuck!

Musical highlights for the day for me were Doug Johns with drummer Jordan Simms, and then Mahlon Hawk jammin' to some loops. And the event organizers Paul Rogalski and Glen Tapia did a great rendition of School Days. (Big hat tip to those two for organizing this event)

Oh yeah, and Jeff St. Andrews doing the slide thing on his bass with a giant nail was pretty awesome too! (And Jeff, if you're reading this you didn't blow up my Mesa amp. After the fact I realized that using some of your distortion pedals we should have probably turned off the tweeters. Still, you sounded great out front).

If you didn't go this year, you really need to go next year.

To anyone who may be interested, I'll be playing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver tomorrow night for Comic Con. I've been asked to fill in the bass slot for Random Battles (a video game band). It would be nice to meet some people from the Talkbass community as I'm still fairly new to this state.

Have you played there before? All the people are really nice that work there. But volume is always an issue due to the hard wood floors and wood walls. Everything is super reflective. Plus the stage a pretty small. It's about right for a 3 piece. Any more than that and it gets a little tight. But hey, it's always cool to say that you've played the hard rock!

This is the first time that I will be playing there. From what I've been told, they have 300 tickets for tomorrow's event and have already sold over half. Should be interesting...

Okay, next Colorado/bass question: who is the best luthier or tech here in Colorado. Say I want a new preamp, pups or wood work done on a bass. Not just a decent "set-up guy", because we all know a cool guy that can set up a bass. I am talking about a real bass tech. Thanks guys. Also you can throw me a # when you get time.

I would vote for Dave Dougherty and Christian (blanking on his last name) at Colfax Guitar Shop. Dave took over management a year or two ago. He has worked with me on a lot of crazy ideas, including giving me a little help with this project:

I bought it as a real beater and restored it to working condition and now it's my favorite bass. Dave helped me get the action where I wanted it by countersinking this tailpiece/bridge about 1.5 mm (it's neck-through).

I saw funky's post the other day and really wanted to say something but as a regular (non commercial) member I don't want to step on any talkbass toes.

Anyways I had to look you up on here cause I didn't recognize you by your user name, your Bronco
brought me back.

No problem. I was really happy w/ the work you did, just not w/ the limitations of the bass, and then it just got out of hand a bit.

Anyway, I will actually be down at the Cherry Blossom festival this weekend. Unfortunately, I just pulled the pickguard and pickups off again. They look better in pictures than in real life so I wanted to clean them up. But if I get ambitious I'll give you a call.

I have not seen this in other "state threads" but maybe the OP should add some info to the bottom of his membership list. Maybe names some recommended music stores, luthier/techs, lesson teachers or other helpful things that people new to TB, or new to Colorado can use. Just a thought, but if it was added to the bottom of the member list it would be easy for us to locate in an easy search. Just a thought, what do you guys think?

I don't think it's a good idea to play favorites or people could start getting feelings hurt over who is getting promoted and who isn't, but compiling a list of popular links would be fairly objective and still helpful.

Are any of you guys the bass player from "That 80s Band"? I was at a private party last night where they played; I have questions about how you were handling PA. It looked like nobody had an amp, and electronic drums. Pretty effective for a club.
